When buying accessories for your Blackstone griddle, consider how often you’ll use it. For frequent use, invest in sturdy utensils and pans to streamline cooking. Look for cutting boards and stands that secure food on the griddle, along with food warmers to enhance the experience. Here’s a guide to essential factors:
“While price is always a consideration with any purchase, spending a bit more on quality materials usually ends up cheaper in the long run, as you’ll likely replace cheap models within a few years,” says Cantwell. “Higher-quality accessories produce higher-quality results.” High-quality materials like stainless steel enhance your accessories’ durability, heat resistance and rust prevention.
While most grill accessories are universal, check compatibility before buying. Avoid plastic spatulas that can melt, leaving residue and potentially leeching chemicals into food. Additionally, avoid accessories that could scratch the griddle, as replacing the griddle itself is far more challenging than replacing accessories. Cantwell advises, “Always read the fine print as it will save a lot of time returning items when they don’t work.”
Cantwell comments, “I am not a fan of most of the multi-tasking tools in the marketplace, especially tongs that try to be a Swiss Army knife for outdoor cooking. At the end of the day, it doesn’t take up that much more space to have a stand-alone spatula, set of tongs or grill grate brush.” He suggests choosing long-handled spatulas and tongs for better protection when handling hot foods and warns against grill brushes with metal bristles, which can break off and pose a health risk if ingested.
Cantwell mentions, “It is always nice to be able to throw an accessory in the dishwasher, and unless they have internal electronics like a temperature probe, you should be able to do so.” Dishwasher-safe accessories reduce cleaning time and add convenience after grilling.
“Safety should always be a top priority,” Cantwell says. He advises using heat-resistant handles to avoid burns and non-slip grips for better control. A non-slip mat under grills and smokers helps prevent slipping from grease drips.
Cantwell cautions, “Before buying the latest gadget, always consider how much you will actually use it and where you’ll store it when not in use. Something like a burger press, for example, can be nice when making smash burgers, but since I rarely make them, I simply tear off a small piece of parchment paper, place it on top of the burger, and use my heavy-duty spatula to smash it.”
