There are very few places for which I’d consider navigating a crowded parking lot on a Saturday. Costco is one of them. The pure efficiency of a Costco run is intoxicating: Where else can one stock up on enough groceries, paper goods, exercise clothes, lawn furniture and contact lenses to last an entire fiscal quarter? Beyond that, though, some of the store’s products are just plain fun. Namely, I’m talking about the new ice cream bar that’s making my Costco membership even more worth it.

What’s the deal of the summer at Costco?

For those unfamiliar with “Dubai chocolate,” it’s a variety of chocolate bar that started going viral online in 2024. Officially called a Pistachio Kataifi Chocolate Bar by the shop that created it, the treat combines a filling of shredded phyllo and pistachio cream with an outer layer of quality chocolate. It’s a colorful, richly textured bar that’s both photogenic and ripe for ASMR content.

The new Afters Dubai Chocolate Ice Cream Bar combines “chunks of rich Dubai chocolate + creamy pistachio vibes,” according to its Instagram account, and the box heralds the product’s “international virality.” The bar first made a splash at Coachella in April, and it’s rolling out to Costco stores this month. Residents of Washington state have reported finding them in area stores, while many California shoppers have reported being out of luck thus far.

TikTok user @cierrakaylese explains that what makes the bar so good is not only the quality of the pistachio ice cream, but also its relatively soft texture and the fact that the chocolate shell (which also contains cruchy kataifi pastry bits) isn’t overly thick.

Some shoppers are giving the side-eye to the price tag, which varies by store but hovers around the $18 mark for 10 bars. However, as The Krazy Koupon Lady points out, that comes out to $1.80 per bar—even less than you’d pay for a cup of soft serve at the Costco food court. For many folks, that’s a fair price to pay to hop on a viral trend.

“I suddenly miss my Costco membership,” wrote one TikTok user in response to a video of the Dubai chocolate ice cream bar that has more than 71,500 likes.

How long will Dubai chocolate ice cream bars be available?

If you want to try this new treat for yourself, don’t worry—it hasn’t even fully rolled out to stores yet. Some internet users are claiming that more Costco locations will be getting the bars in June. But if you spot them, you’ll probably want to buy them instead of waiting until your next shopping trip, because fans of the product who returned for a second box found that they were sold out.

These Dubai chocolate ice cream bars aren’t the only frozen treat at Costco that has people excited this season. The return of Nightingale ice cream sandwiches to Northeast stores has been celebrated by many shoppers, who praise the new Strawberry Shortcake flavor, as well as its just-right size and price point of $19.99 for 18 sandwiches. What delicious treats are you finding in the freezer section at your local Costco?
