We have a confession: Yes, even professional foodies don’t feel like cooking every night. After spending all day evaluating recipes and kitchen gear, sometimes we need a break!
That’s why we’ve spent the past three years reviewing meal delivery services. In 2024 alone, we tested (and retested!) over a dozen kits to ensure the selection, ingredients, instructions and quality meet our high expectations. Our Product Testing Team spent over 225 hours in their home kitchens and collected over 2,000 data points testing the top players on the market.
Our all-time favorite, which has held the best overall spot for three years now, is none other than Martha Stewart’s Marley Spoon. Here’s why this chef-inspired service earned the title of best meal kit in 2024.
Like other meal kits, Marley Spoon allows users to choose from a selection of meals each week. You can order two or four servings for two to six meals. Then, after you make your selections, a box of ingredients and recipe cards shows up at your door. Easy-peasy.
What sets this service apart, though, are the chef-inspired selections that come straight from Martha Stewart’s kitchen. We were awed by the restaurant-quality meals we sampled, including Skillet Beef Moussaka, Sheet Pan Piri Piri Chicken, Sesame-Crusted Salmon with Kale Goma-Ae, Butternut Squash Ravioli Florentine and Shrimp Tikka Masala.
Our team has tested Marley Spoon twice—in 2022 and again in 2024. Both times, we were thoroughly impressed.
Right off the bat, we loved that there were over 100 meals to choose from each week. Even if you’re cooking for someone who’s gluten-free or plant-based—or need a meal kit that pleases the entire family—Marley Spoon has you covered. Each dish is clearly labeled and has pertinent information, like prep time, skill level, nutrition information and allergens.
After making their selections, our testers were greeted by a box shipped straight to their door. Packaging is the only area where this service lacks. We didn’t love that the ingredients weren’t separated by meal, and we had some issues with leaky ice packs. (Everything was still safe to eat, though.)
As we got cooking, we found we needed to provide a few pantry staples like olive oil, salt and pepper. Our testers found the instructions easy to follow, and they even introduced us to some new cooking methods. The flavor, though, is where these recipes really shined.
Tester Molly Allen said of the Sheet Pan Piri Piri Chicken, “The flavor of the seasoned vegetables and chicken paired with the drizzle of piri piri vinaigrette was incredible. I ended up eating every single piece of the roasted veggies in one serving—they were that good.” And tester Sheri Kaz found the Shrimp Tikka Masala stretched her cooking skills. “For someone who has never attempted to make an Indian dish, I found this recipe easy to prepare, and Marley Spoon provided all the spices I needed for a very tasty dish,” Sheri says. “I loved that they included fresh ginger and fresh garlic.”
If you’re looking to amp up your cooking game in 2025, give Marley Spoon a try. New subscribers get a discount on their first box, and we found canceling is as easy as filling out a questionnaire. This way to easy dinners and new flavors!
