Looking for a very merry dessert? Say hello to the Christmas PieCaken. This red-and-white pie-cake combo makes for the sweetest ending to your holiday dinner.
Now, if you’re asking: what the heck is a PieCaken?! Let us explain. The Original PieCaken—which gains popularity every Thanksgiving—combines three desserts into each slice: pecan pie, pumpkin pie and spice cake. Cinnamon buttercream sits between each layer and covers the entire dessert. Finally, the outside of the creation is covered with an oat crumble, and the top is finished with apple pie filling. Think of it as a turducken’s much sweeter cousin.
The Christmas PieCaken has the same genius concept but with different layers and flavors. Here’s what you need to know about this festive Goldbelly cake.
Enjoy flavors of red velvet, pecan pie and cheesecake—all in one tasty bite!
The Christmas PieCaken comes from the mind of renowned pastry chef Zac Young. The bottom layer is a rich chocolate pecan pie, the middle is a luscious cherry swirl cheesecake, and the top is a festive red velvet cake. Cream cheese buttercream is spread between each layer and on the outside of the creation. For a finishing touch, the whole thing is rolled in bright red and white sprinkles.

“The Christmas PieCaken is about ‘the greatest hits,’ crowd-pleasing showstoppers all rolled into one,” a representative for Zac told us over email. “It’s the Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden of cakes—fun for all ages.”
While we have yet to get our hands on the Christmas PieCaken, our editors have tested the Classic PieCaken. Shopping Editor Caitlyn Fitzpatrick explains that, after ordering via Goldbelly, the frozen PieCaken arrived with dry ice in two days. She let it defrost in the fridge overnight and cut into it a few days later. According to Goldbelly, the dessert can be refrigerated for up to seven days and stored in the freezer for up to three months.
“Right off the bat, I was surprised that the PieCaken held together so well,” Caitlyn says. “I was concerned that the many layers would result in a mashup on my plate, but each pie, cake and frosting layer was distinct, and the outside didn’t get damaged during delivery.”
“My two favorite layers were the pumpkin pie and cinnamon buttercream, so eating them together was a true treat,” Caitlyn adds. “The PieCaken allowed me to make my own special bites of different desserts I wouldn’t have normally put together on the same utensil.”
If you would like to experience holiday dessert bliss, the Christmas PieCaken is available through Goldbelly. The cake costs $99.95, including shipping. It serves 10-12 people and makes a great Goldbelly gift for those on your shopping list with an especially sweet tooth.
