Community Cook of the Month
Kailey Thompson from Palm Bay, Florida
Kailey Thompson is an Area Director in the Health and Wellness industry and a mom to three wonderful girls. She lives in Kentucky but is a Florida girl at heart. You can always find her whipping up something different in the kitchen and pairing it with a craft beer. When she’s not cooking, she enjoys listening to true crime podcasts and reading suspense novels.
Taste Recipes: How long have you been a fan of Taste Recipes?
Kailey Thompson: As a little girl, I used to read my grandma’s Taste Recipes magazines. I loved searching for the toothpick in each edition, and the recipes were a bonus! My mom and aunt also subscribed to the magazine, so Taste Recipes has been a part of my life for many years.
TOH: How did you learn to cook?
KT: I was lucky enough to know several great cooks in my life. I spent a lot of time with grandma when I was young. She was always cooking, baking or canning, and she enjoyed including me. One of my fondest memories is of her allowing me to use extra pie crust dough for my very own apple pie. My dad is also a great cook that I’ve learned so much from over the years. He takes so much pride in his creations, unafraid of what I would consider complicated dishes. I’ll never forget when he made coq au vin—it was perfect. Now, he makes YouTube videos promoting how easy cooking can be.
TOH: Who do you love to cook for the most?
KT: My love language is food. Ever since I was a little girl, I have felt and expressed love through food. I remember having a bad day and mom making a favorite dish of mine and miraculously feeling better. As I got older, I expressed that love in my cooking for my family. I believe the act of making someone’s favorite dish speaks louder than words themselves. I love to cook for my family to show how much I love them and to nurture them.
TOH: What is your favorite recipe you’ve had published to Taste Recipes?
KT: My favorite published recipe is Mom’s Fluffy Eggs. I believe there is beauty in simplicity, especially when it comes to dishes such as scrambled eggs. It’s also an easy recipe that I believe many people can follow.
