This Secret Ingredient Will Completely Erase Calcium Buildup in Your Kettle

There are so many amazing benefits to drinking tea. And if you’re like me, your kettle is working overtime during the cold weather months. I use mine a few times a day! Any kettle that’s frequently used will develop some mineral buildup. Lucky for us, there’s a TikTok hack for that.
How to Remove Calcium Buildup
According to TikTok creator @creative_explained, an account that tests and shares cleaning hacks, the secret to removing the stubborn calcium buildup in your kettle is Coca-Cola.
All you need to do is fill your kettle with Coke, bring it to a boil, let it sit for 10 minutes and voila—you’ve got a sparkling, clean tea kettle. Be sure to rinse it out completely to remove any sticky residue, though.

Why does calcium build up in your kettle?
Scale forms when calcium hardens and mineral deposits dry up in water. When you fill your kettle with water that has a high mineral content, buildup can occur, altering the flavor of your drinks.
How does this hack work?
You may already know that Coca-Cola is slightly acidic, which means you can use it to clean all kinds of things, like toilets, stains, rust and buildup on your pots and pans. It even removes gum from hair. Since Coca-Cola contains phosphoric acid, it neutralizes the stickiness of the gum. How crazy is that?
If you’re looking for a more natural way to remove calcium buildup, baking soda will also do the trick! This method is also ideal if your kettle has a white interior, as the Coca-Cola technique could leave stains.
To do this, you’ll want to add one to two tablespoons of baking soda to the kettle, then fill it halfway with water. Put it on the stove, bring the water to a boil and then let it sit for around 20 minutes. Rinse out the residue. That’s it!
