I didn't think Wendy's could improve on the original Frosty. I was wrong.

Here’s Why the Brand-New Frosty at Wendy’s Won Me Over

I took one business class in college, where I learned that innovation is the key to success. I personally think that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
The Frosty has been a staple of Wendy’s core menu since the chain opened in the ’60s, and it’s been wildly popular (with almost no change) ever since.
I’ve been a Frosty fanatic since before I could walk. The food critic in me can’t resist a Wendy’s Frosty and fries for the perfect salty-sweet combo.
Recently, Wendy’s made a major change to its original Frosty by introducing Frosty Fusions, aka flavor swirls and mix-ins. I had to know if this was a change for the better, or if Wendy’s should’ve stuck to the tried-and-true.
Are the new Frostys good?
There are six new options in total, three Frosty Swirls and three Frosty Fusions. You can start with a chocolate or vanilla base and choose strawberry, caramel or brownie batter sauce for a Swirl. Fusions involve mix-ins on top: strawberry sauce with Strawberry Pop-Tart pieces, brownie batter with Oreo or crunchy toffee with caramel.
The vanilla-based Strawberry Frosty Fusion piqued my interest, so that’s what I ordered. Boy, did I make the right decision! As the Wendy’s employee placed my Frosty on the counter, I already knew it was going to be a great day. I grabbed it and sat down for a thorough taste test.
First things first, it’s still a Frosty. The consistency is thick, smooth and creamy. That’s a given. The vanilla and strawberry syrup combo reminds me of the Strawberry Frostys from once upon a time. The syrup tasted much more authentic than I had anticipated, and I appreciated it. It wasn’t overwhelming. I didn’t find myself wading through pools of syrup looking for a pocket of vanilla. The layers mixed together naturally and tasted incredible.
The absolute best part was the Pop-Tart mix-ins. I took my first bite and was instantly transported back to childhood. If you’ve ever had a frozen Pop-Tart, you know what I’m talking about! The combination of creamy Frosty and crunchy pastry was a symphony in my mouth. I was floored. And, on top of everything, the Pop-Tarts didn’t lose their flavor. The filling was sweet and worked well with the syrup.
I would put this Frosty Fusion on the same level as the Thin Mint Frosty. I only wish I had ordered a side of fries for the momentous occasion.
How long are the new Frostys at Wendy’s?
The Frosty Fusions and Frosty Swirls are part of the permanent Wendy’s menu! Because they’re absolutely perfect for the summer, I imagine you’ll be going back for more just like I will. Turns out, innovation is the key to success. Just don’t change your square burgers, Wendy’s.
