Your next trip to the big box store will soon be getting tastier.

Walmart Is Opening This Iconic Fast-Food Chain in Select Stores

Big box stores know exactly what they’re doing when they open up a fast-food outpost inside their own walls. After all, no trip to Target is complete without a stop at the in-store Starbucks for a Frappuccino or cake pop, and it’s impossible to resist those famous $1.50 hot dogs after picking up your Costco haul. Sometimes you just need a little treat to alleviate the stress of spending hundreds of dollars on groceries.
It should come as no surprise, then, that the trend is expanding, as Walmart just announced that it will soon welcome Wienerschnitzel—the popular California-based hot dog chain—inside some of its stores.
When is Walmart opening its Wienerschnitzel locations?
According to the chain, the Wienerschnitzel stores will open inside select Walmarts nationwide beginning this fall. The stores will offer the chain’s full menu, including its iconic chili cheese dog, the French fry-topped Junkyard Dog, sides like jalapeno poppers and cheese fries, and Tastee-Freez soft serve ice cream.
How many Walmarts will have Wienerschnitzel?
The new partnership between Walmart and Wienerschnitzel will begin with six locations across six states in the western U.S. These locations include stores in Puyallup, Washington; Alamogordo, New Mexico; Tempe, Arizona; Reno, Nevada; Colorado Springs, Colorado and Bakersfield, California. If successful, it’s likely the partnership will expand to additional locations.
Known as the world’s largest hot dog chain, Wienerschnitzel currently has 340 franchise locations across 13 states, including a heavy presence in Southern California and on the West Coast.
The new locations are part of the chain’s efforts to grow this footprint via “non-traditional avenues,” the company said in an announcement. It is also exploring opening new locations inside food courts, airports, military bases, convenience stores and theme parks. While we’re personally not sure we have the stomachs to eat a chili cheese dog before hopping on a roller coaster at a theme park, we wouldn’t be at all opposed to noshing on some of that carby, cheesy goodness once safely back on the ground.
