Molly Baz is a source of pure joy on my Instagram feed. The cook, recipe developer and New York Times-bestselling cookbook author first came into my life via the Bon Appétit YouTube channel. She’s since moved on from BA and is now doing her own thing: publishing cookbooks, hosting a podcast and teaching us how to make sourdough.

She’s also developed a brand-new recipe to celebrate her foray into the world of sourdough baking. It’s Sourdough Garlic Butter Bread, and yes, I’m drooling.

I had a chance to catch up with Molly and chat all things sourdough. I’ll admit that I have always been too intimidated to try to make my own loaf! But after our conversation, I feel ready to tackle this task head-on.

How did Molly get into baking sourdough?

“The first loaf I ever made was dismal. Flat as a pancake. But you know what? It still tasted good,” Molly said. “The first few loaves were learning experiences.” It’s helpful to know that even someone as accomplished as Molly—the author of two NYT-bestselling cookbooks—also struggles with overcoming sourdough mountain.

For the uninitiated, baking sourdough is more complicated than a standard homemade loaf of bread. Sourdough requires a “starter,” which is a mixture of flour and water that ferments and gives loaves that uniquely tangy, utterly delicious taste. “A friend gifted me a bit of her very old and storied sourdough starter. It sort of spun out from there, and the next thing I knew, I was proofing multiple breads on the daily in my home kitchen,” says Molly.

What are Molly’s tips for making perfect sourdough bread?

Aside from having the correct bread-making tools, here are some techniques straight from Molly to improve the outcome of your loaves:

 • Always bake with an active starter: Your starter should double in size within 6 to 8 hours after feeding, or it won’t be strong enough to produce lofty loaves. Using starter that is very much alive will ensure tender, well-risen bread.
 • Refrigerate your dough for stronger flavor: You can opt for a longer fermentation, transferring your dough to the refrigerator and baking the next day. The best time to stop and chill your dough is after shaping your loaf. The next day, pick up where you left off, letting the dough sit on the counter for an hour or two before proceeding.
 • A good ratio for feeding your sourdough starter is 1:1:1: That is, equal parts flour, water and starter. You can perform small feedings of your starter (about 30 grams of each element) when you’re not baking to keep your starter “at the ready.”
 • Don’t forget about the windowpane test: This is the best way to tell whether or not dough has had a sufficient number of folds and stretches. To do this, flatten a small piece of dough between your fingers. Gently pull on opposite ends to stretch out the middle. Dough that doesn’t tear easily—and appears as translucent as a windowpane—indicates strong gluten formation.
 • Keep things tense: Create surface tension while shaping the dough so your bread will have the right structure, crumb and rise. You can achieve this by using less flour while shaping—too much flour will encourage the dough to slide around. Less flour means that you’ll have some friction on the work surface to help pull the dough taut.
 • Cover dough to proof: Molly uses Stasher’s Stretch Lids, which are reusable silicone lids that stretch to cover any size bowl. Instead of trying to wrestle with plastic wrap while your hands are full of flour, just pop one of these on, and poof! You’re on your way to prooftown.

I asked Molly if she had any more advice for me before I get started on my sourdough journey. “Take the pressure off!” she said. “Your first loaf isn’t going to be perfect, and that’s completely fine.”

It’s almost like she knew that I’m a recovering perfectionist. Well, with Molly Baz’s blessing, I’m certainly feeling more inspired to dive into the world of sourdough!

Quinta Brunson’s Go-To Comfort Food Costs Less Than $2 https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/quinta-brunson-comfort-food/ Fri, 09 May 2025 08:19:26 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2141628 A relatable queen!

Quinta Brunson is booked and busy. You probably know her best as the creator, executive producer, writer and star of the hit TV show, Abbott Elementary. She’s also fresh off hosting Saturday Night Live for the second time and absolutely slaying the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala.

I imagine that wearing so many hats on the set of Abbott can get stressful. When I get stressed, I absolutely reach for the foods that will wrap me in a giant hug and let me decompress a bit. So when I found out that Quinta has the same comfort food as I do, I got excited. Especially because it’s only $1.59 at Target!

What is Quinta Brunson’s go-to comfort food?

In an interview with The Strategist, Quinta lists nine things she can’t live without. Like any writer, she said her MacBook Air is always in her bag. And of the three food items that make the list, one of them stands out: Annie’s Shells & White Cheddar macaroni and cheese. “It’s the best comfort food after a long day of filming,” she says.

Apparently, Quinta’s partner was the one who introduced her to the life-changing product during the pandemic. “I was so confused as to why he would be this excited about this specific brand of mac and cheese,” she said. “But…it’s so good. It’s so easy and quick to make, and filling and just, I don’t know. It’s so warm. We’ll curl up on the couch with a bowl of it.”

Shout out to Quinta’s partner for showing her the light. The Shells & White Cheddar variation has a special place in my heart as well. It’s obviously perfect straight out of the box, but it’s also a great blank canvas if you need a quick dinner idea. My favorite mac and cheese add-ins are frozen peas and some canned tuna for a deliciously easy spin on tuna noodle casserole. Quinta, if you’re reading this, give it a try!

99-Year-Old Sir David Attenborough No Longer Eats This One Thing https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/what-does-sir-david-attenborough-eat/ Thu, 08 May 2025 22:18:17 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2141574 The legendary biologist made a major change to his diet.

The post 99-Year-Old Sir David Attenborough No Longer Eats This One Thing appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Sir David Attenborough has one of the most famous voices of all time. If you’ve seen any nature documentaries in the past 50 years, you can probably hear it right now. In fact, I urge you to imagine that he is narrating this story, because I think that will make for a much more enjoyable read.

Today marks Sir David’s 99th birthday, an important milestone for the biologist. “I see no reason whatsoever why I can’t live past 100,” he told the Sun in 2017. “Earth has enough wonders to make more than three Planet Earth series.” His pursuit of longevity is tied to his passion for documenting all that our planet has to offer.

As an environmentalist, he’s given considerable thought to the kind of food that he eats. And in order to live to 100 (and beyond!), he eliminated something from his diet.

What food does Sir David Attenborough no longer eat?

In the past few years, he has given up eating red meat altogether. That means no beef, lamb, pork, veal or venison.

“I do eat cheese, I have to say, and I eat fish. But by and large, I’ve become much more vegetarian over the past few years than I thought I would ever be,” he said in an interview.

Forgoing meat altogether or simply cutting back on meat has gained a lot of popularity over the last 20 years. In fact, “Meatless Monday” began in 2003 as a partnership between advocate Sid Lerner and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

There are a lot of really tasty meat substitutes available at the grocery store, and they make for a delicious way to cut back on meat while still enjoying familiar recipes. And of course, tofu remains one of the cheapest and easiest ways to swap out animal-based protein in a meal.

I eat meat, but I also love the convenience of cooking with tofu. In fact, I am constantly converting my friends into tofu enthusiasts—one of my favorite recipes is a Buffalo tofu salad with extra crispy pieces of tofu doused in Frank’s Buffalo sauce. If Sir David Attenborough ever comes over to my house, I will make this for him!

Baked Beans Recall: 4,515 Cases of Popular Baked Beans Recalled in 23 States https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/baked-beans-recall-may-2025/ Wed, 07 May 2025 17:19:46 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2141170 Walmart, Meijer, Hy-Vee and other grocery stores sold the beans.

]]>
It appears that grilling season is off to a rocky start. First, tomatoes were recalled due to a salmonella risk. Now, one of summer’s most iconic sides is facing a recall: baked beans.

On May 5, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans have been recalled due to an undeclared allergen. Here’s what we know about the recall, including which grocery stores sold the beans.

What caused the recall?

Vietti Food Group issued a press release on May 2 to say that 4,515 cases of its Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans contain soy. The labels on these cans did not say that soy was one of the ingredients in the beans, which could be dangerous for people with soy allergies.

Someone with a soy allergy (or intolerance) could experience serious or life-threatening reactions if they eat these baked beans.

What stores sold the baked beans?

This specific variety of Yellowstone baked beans was distributed to Walmart, Hy-Vee, Meijer, Food City and Associated Wholesale Grocers.

The beans were sold in 23 states: Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.

How do I know if I have a recalled can of baked beans?

It’s easy to figure out if you have a can of recalled beans. The 15-ounce cans of Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans have “Best if Used By Feb 17, 2028” printed on the bottom.

What should I do next?

If you have a can of the recalled baked beans, don’t eat them. The company has encouraged customers to return cans to the grocery store for a refund. If you have eaten the beans and feel ill, reach out to your doctor ASAP.

For other questions about the recall, contact Vietti Food Group directly at 513-682-2474 or email [email protected].

Aldi Just Brought Back the Frozen Meal That Makes Me Feel Like I Have My Life Together https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/aldi-fish-and-chips-may-2025/ Wed, 07 May 2025 07:41:49 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2140426 I love this cod most ardently.

The post Aldi Just Brought Back the Frozen Meal That Makes Me Feel Like I Have My Life Together appeared first on Taste Recipes.

Listen, cooking is fun. I love the creativity it offers me. There is something so satisfying about taking a handful of ingredients and transforming them into a meal. It’s like taking a bunch of words and stringing them together into a story—say this one, for instance.

But even I, someone who loves cooking, get tired of doing it. Sometimes the recipe I excitedly bookmarked on Sunday is the last thing I want to make on Wednesday. (I’m human!) And try as I might, I can’t quite shake the guilt that I’m “giving up” by preparing a frozen meal.

This is where my favorite affordable grocery store, Aldi, enters the narrative. Aldi knows that life is unpredictable, and a delicious and satisfying freezer meal that doesn’t taste like it was ever frozen is the solution. Instead of feeling guilty or defeated, I feel like I’ve been immediately transported to a delightfully cozy English pub.

What is the Aldi frozen meal that makes me feel like I have my life together?

It brings a tear of joy to my eye when this is back in stock: Fremont Fish Market British-Style Fish and Chips. There are two versions, one is haddock and the other is cod. They are both excellent, and you should immediately drive to Aldi and buy them.

You might be surprised to hear that this is the meal that makes me feel like I have my life together, but let me explain. This frozen meal helps me remember that anything is possible! I can’t say that about most foods, and yet this Aldi frozen dinner comes together in about half an hour and costs $5.49.

I know that frozen fish and fries are no grand invention. But this product is not like a regular frozen meal; it’s a cool frozen meal. Here’s why:

 1. The fish is beer-battered, which gives it an incredibly light and flaky coating. It’s more elevated than your typical frozen breaded fish, and tastes much better.
 2. The batter actually gets crispy in the oven. The directions instruct you to cook the fish on a wire baking rack above a baking sheet, so air can circulate. The result? Crispy fish that isn’t getting soggy from baking in a pile of its own grease.
 3. The ratio of fish to chips is perfect. It’s a great serving size and feels exactly like a portion you’d get while dining out.

Basically, just add a side of mushy peas and a pint of English beer, and you’ll feel like you’re in an English pub. Or, if you’re like me, you can pretend that you moved to London and your Mr. Darcy-lookalike boyfriend ordered takeaway from the local chippy because he knew you were having a bad day. When was the last time a frozen meal inspired you to dream?

How long will they be available?

Like any great Aldi find, “here today, gone tomorrow” is always the mentality. The fish and chips should be back in stores beginning on May 7, and only the masterminds at Aldi HQ know how long they will be in stock. If you happen to frequent my Aldi store, then good luck getting one before I buy them all. Now I’m off to find a good chest freezer!

Tomato Recall: Vine Ripe Tomatoes Recalled in 14 States Because of Salmonella Risk https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/tomato-recall-may-2025/ Mon, 05 May 2025 20:57:09 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2140326 Here's what to do if you're concerned about the tomato recall.

The post Tomato Recall: Vine Ripe Tomatoes Recalled in 14 States Because of Salmonella Risk appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Before slicing a fresh tomato for your next sandwich, check to see if your tomatoes are safe to eat.

Tomatoes are in the news because one farm distributed tomatoes that may be contaminated with salmonella. This is what we know so far about the tomato recall.

What caused the tomato recall?

Hanshaw & Capling Farms in Florida is notifying its distributors that its tomatoes may be contaminated with salmonella. That’s a problem because Hanshaw & Capling sells to repackers that may be supplying tomatoes to your grocery store. Right now, there are two active recalls from repackers, one from Williams Farms and one from Ray & Mascari.

We don’t know exactly where the Williams Farms tomatoes were sold, but Ray & Mascari repackaged its tomatoes into 4-packs and shipped them to Gordon Food Service stores.

What states are affected?

Williams Farms tomatoes went to wholesalers and distributors in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Ray & Mascari sent its tomatoes to Gordon Food Service stores in 11 states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

That’s a total of 14 states affected by this tomato recall.

How do I know if I have recalled tomatoes?

Right now, Gordon Food Service is the only retailer named in the recall announcement. The tomatoes there were sold in a 4-pack plastic clamshell container. The label says “Vine Ripe Tomatoes” and “Packed by Ray & Mascari Inc., Indianapolis, IN 46204.”

It’s possible that other stores sold the recalled tomatoes, but that information hasn’t been released.

What should I do next?

If you purchased the 4-count container of tomatoes at Gordon Food Service, throw them out. Don’t eat them, even if the tomatoes don’t look contaminated. If you have questions, reach out to Ray & Mascari directly at 317-637-0234.

Ryan Gosling’s Favorite Dessert Is One of His Mother-in-Law’s Recipes https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/ryan-gosling-favorite-dessert/ Fri, 02 May 2025 19:03:19 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2139571 He is a man of taste!

The post Ryan Gosling’s Favorite Dessert Is One of His Mother-in-Law’s Recipes appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Ryan Gosling has made a career of flexing both his acting chops and his biceps, and I commend him for this dedication. From big, sweeping romances like The Notebook and La La Land to his turn as Ken in 2023’s blockbuster hit, Barbie, he’s been a mainstay on the silver screen for 20 years.

When he’s not acting, Ryan is hanging out with his family. He’s been in a relationship with fellow actor Eva Mendes since 2011, and the couple has two daughters, Esmerelda and Amada. He keeps a lot of his personal life private, but there is one aspect that he will discuss: food! Which is lucky for me, since my job is to write about food.

And if you’re wondering, he does play favorites. There is one recipe that he just can’t seem to get “Kenough” of, and it’s one that his mother-in-law makes!

What is Ryan Gosling’s favorite dessert?

“If you could only eat one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?” I think that is a pretty impossible question to answer, but it didn’t stump Ryan Gosling in this Netflix interview. Much to my surprise, he had an answer ready to go—and it’s a good one!

“It would be Eva’s mom’s arroz con leche,” he said. And then he even took it a step further by elaborating on exactly how it tastes. “It’s like an angel crying on your tongue,” he continued.

What is arroz con leche?

Arroz con leche is a sweet, cinnamon-spiced pudding. It’s a big part of Mexican and other Latin cuisines. Ryan Gosling’s mother-in-law, Eva Perez Suarez, is Cuban.

As with any dish, it will vary from culture to culture and family to family, but the basic ingredients are the same. It’s a mixture of rice, sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon and raisins. Angel tears must be that secret family ingredient!

Saoirse Ronan is one of the most exciting actors of her generation. From her very first Academy Award-nominated performance in Atonement to her lead role as Jo March in Little Women, she has been enchanting us on the silver screen.

She takes her food as seriously as her acting, much like her Lady Bird and Little Women co-star, Timothée Chalamet. In fact, she even signed up to take a cooking course!

What dessert did Saoirse Ronan learn to make?

According to this interview, she took a week-long cooking class with a friend in Edinburgh, Scotland. “It was just sort of beginner’s things, like different sorts of crumbles and pastries,” she told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.

She also learned how to properly brown meat and prepare a proper Sunday roast, which is a classic meal throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. But her favorite part of the course was what they made on the last day of class.

“They [the instructors] said to us the whole week, ‘the thing that you’re cooking on Friday is like the best thing that you’re ever gonna have in your life’,” she said in the interview. The dessert? Sticky ginger cake!

What is sticky ginger cake?

Saoirse says that the sticky ginger cake is similar to a classic sticky toffee pudding, but it’s made in a loaf pan rather than an individual dish or cake pan. I think that makes sense for a beginner’s class—it’s probably less finicky to make it in a loaf pan for your first go at it. Regardless of the pan you use, I guarantee that it is delicious.

I would be happy to eat anything Saoirse makes for me, whether it’s a sticky ginger cake or a whole Sunday roast!

I Tried Khloud Protein Popcorn, Khloe Kardashian’s Latest Creation https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/khloe-kardashian-khloud-protein-popcorn/ Wed, 30 Apr 2025 20:13:04 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2138535 Orville Redenbacher works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder.

The post I Tried Khloud Protein Popcorn, Khloe Kardashian’s Latest Creation appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
If there’s one thing the Kardashian-Jenner family loves, it’s a good side hustle. Kylie Jenner has her infamous lip kits, of course, as well as her new clothing line, Khy. Kendall Jenner launched 818 Tequila in 2021, the name referencing the area code for Calabasas, California—or should I say Kalabasas?

Wellness-minded Kourtney Kardashian has a company called Lemme that includes a line of vitamins and supplements. Kim Kardashian is behind the popular shapewear and leisure brand Skims.

Now, Khloé Kardashian is getting into the food space. Her denim company, Good American, is quite possibly my favorite place to buy jeans, so I was excited to check out a new product from her. I’ll admit, this one sounds a little far-fetched.

It’s called Khloud Protein Popcorn.

What is Khloud Protein Popcorn?

My mantra is “don’t knock it til you try it,” and it’s served me well so far. I love popcorn and protein, so why not try a product that combines them?

The popcorn comes in three different flavors: Olive Oil & Sea Salt, White Cheddar and Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn. The packaging has a soft, almost cartoon-y quality to the branding. The bags are pastel pink, yellow and purple, and the “Khloud” name is noticeably in all lowercase, which is very on trend at the moment. My first thought was that this popcorn is really trying hard to look good on your Instagram feed.

How does the Khloud Protein Popcorn taste?

I bought a bag of each flavor to try. I started with the Olive Oil & Sea Salt, since it had the mildest flavor profile. At first, it didn’t really taste like anything, but I kept eating it. The correct way to eat popcorn is by shoving a handful into your mouth, so that’s exactly what I did.

After eating about one cup’s worth, my fingers were coated by the proprietary “Khloud dust” that makes this regular popcorn full of protein. There is still almost no flavor. It’s…weird. It’s not bad popcorn, but it feels off. And maybe I’m biased because the Trader Joe’s Olive Oil and Sea Salt Popcorn is literally my favorite popcorn of all time. This Khloud variety is a pass from me.

After that weird start, I moved on to the White Cheddar option. I immediately got a hit of cheddar flavor from the very first kernel. This flavor was really pleasant, and I was happily surprised at how cheesy it tasted. This is also smothered in “Khloud dust,” but I found it less off-putting on this variety. If you’re used to the Skinny Pop White Cheddar popcorn, this will taste almost identical. In fact, I would purchase this again as a snack. I would also eat it with chopsticks, my favorite Reddit hack for eating snacks with “dust” on them.

Finally, I opened the Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn (how mad do you think Khloé is that “Korn” is already taken?) and gave it a go. I really love kettle corn, so going into this, I had high expectations. The popcorn delivers on the “sweet and salty” moniker, but the sweet kernels are like 10 times better than the salty ones. If I had to put money on it, I’d bet that the “salty” kernels are just my (new) nemesis: the Olive Oil and Sea Salt flavor. It’s such a bummer! I might buy this again, but only if it’s on sale.

Where can I get Khloud Protein Popcorn?

Khloud Protein Popcorn retails for $4.99 a bag and is available exclusively at Target and khloudfoods.com. Since the website uses a more generic “Khloud Foods” term, I anticipate that this is not the last time we’ll see “Khloud dust” on grocery shelves. I only hope that future products turn out more like the White Cheddar popcorn!

Royals, they’re just like us! Princess Diana liked to keep tasty snacks on hand. Camilla doesn’t have time to cook, and King Charles has Stanley Tucci over for dinner.

OK, maybe that last one is a bit of a stretch—but a girl can dream.

The most fascinating YouTube deep dive I’ve done recently was about the food served to the British royal family. More specifically, I stumbled upon videos from Darren McGrady, a former royal chef at Buckingham Palace who later became Princess Diana’s private chef.

In one specific video, Chef Darren walks through the dessert he used to make “all the time” for young Prince William. It’s something William requested frequently, even as he aged out of the royal nursery.

What is Prince William’s favorite dessert?

The Prince of Wales loves all things banana, and his favorite dessert is a banana flan. Yes, I also thought that was very niche!

Banana desserts are certainly a bold choice, and as a fellow banana-dessert lover, I applaud Prince William’s taste. But while I was watching this video, it struck me that what Chef Darren is making isn’t actually a flan—it’s a tart.

He starts the recipe by making a simple pastry crust with flour, butter, sugar and an egg yolk. While he rolls the pastry out, he acknowledges the differences between pies, tarts and flans, and says it doesn’t make much of a difference. I…think it does, but I’m not a royal chef.

In addition to this banana flan/tart, apparently, Prince William also loved banana ice cream, banana fritters and banana custard. If one thing is for certain, it’s that Prince William hits his daily potassium goals!

How Pope Francis’s Love for ‘Alfajores’ Reflects His Life and Legacy https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/pope-francis-favorite-dessert/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 18:33:11 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2137019 The Pope made modest choices, living in a simple apartment and cooking his own meals.

The post How Pope Francis’s Love for ‘Alfajores’ Reflects His Life and Legacy appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Pope Francis was known for many things throughout his tenure as spiritual head of the Catholic Church. In remembering his life, I’d like to share something I find touching: his appreciation of food.

The pope was not interested in lavish banquets. He enjoyed simple meals, especially empanadas and warm bread. In his eyes, food and faith went hand in hand. He believed food was a basic human right and a way to foster community.

He frequently denounced food waste. “Throwing away food is like stealing from the table of the poor and the hungry,” he said in a 2022 speech from the Vatican. He was also known for hosting annual meals at the Vatican for unhoused people.

Pope Francis’s embrace of humility in all aspects of his life is striking. And while he loved pizza—his home base was in Italy, after all—there is a sweet item from his childhood in Argentina that always held a special place in his heart.

What was Pope Francis’s favorite Argentine dessert?

Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He reminisced frequently about learning how to cook empanadas from his grandmother. Another dish he made as a child was a treat called alfajores

Alfajores are sweet sandwich cookies. They’re usually made with two biscuits and a layer of dulce de leche in between. Depending on the region of Latin America where they’re made, they can be dusted with powdered sugar, shredded coconut or chocolate.

The biscuits are made with either flour or cornstarch, butter, sugar and eggs. The Argentine version usually uses more cornstarch for a softer, more crumbly cookie texture that melts into the rich dulce de leche filling.

Pope Francis kept a love of this childhood treat alive throughout his life. In The Vatican Cookbook, Swiss chef David Geisser shared an anecdote about the pope’s love of alfajores: “He smiled as he handed me the sweet gift and said he hoped it would ‘make the day a little better.’”

Whether you want to buy some or try to make your own, alfajores are a perfect way to commemorate the life of Pope Francis. And if you want to honor his legacy, I suggest that you share them.

In my mind, Stanley Tucci can do no wrong. So imagine my surprise when I found out that he didn’t serve cake at his wedding!

In 2012, Stanley married Felicity Blunt. Felicity is a literary agent, and you probably know her famous sister, Emily Blunt. Stanley and Emily actually starred in The Devil Wears Prada together, so I really hope they act out scenes from the movie when everyone is together at Christmastime, eating his six-ingredient pasta casserole (let a girl dream!).

Since Stanley is a verified foodie—having dined with King Charles, and all—I can only imagine that no detail was spared for the spread at his wedding. I’m sure that it was a veritable feast of simple but well-made Italian delicacies, perfectly paired with a selection of wines and cordials. But whatever he served, one thing is for sure: There was no cake.

What did Stanley Tucci serve at his wedding instead of cake?

Maybe you’re thinking that Stanley Tucci left cake off the menu and instead did something cool and fun like a DIY cannoli bar (which is a real thing I enjoyed at a wedding once!). Or perhaps he isn’t into cake, but loves a good pie, so he had an array of freshly baked pies available for guests.

I’m here to tell you that he did no such thing. This man served cheese for dessert.

“I’m not a big dessert person,” Tucci said during a Q&A on Instagram. “I think cheese and honey together is a really delicious dessert.”

Listen, I also think cheese and honey go well together … as an appetizer. Or maybe they can be dinner after a really stressful day. But I refuse to let that be the dessert anyone serves at a wedding. Apparently, he and Felicity served big wheels of cheese instead of cake. If I had a few too many Aperol spritzes at that wedding, I guarantee I would have tried to roll those wheels right off the table.

This Is the Only Knife That Ina Garten Will Use in the Kitchen https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/ina-garten-favorite-knife-wusthof-classic/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 13:00:06 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2136397 Ina is always there for you—even when it comes to knife recommendations. Store yours like she does to keep the blades sharp.

Ina Garten can always be counted on to provide whatever you need to live your best life. Maybe that’s a reliable crowd-pleasing recipe for an upcoming event (in which case I recommend Ina’s favorite dessert). Or maybe you don’t feel like cooking, and just want to bask in the glow of a few Barefoot Contessa episodes with a glass of wine. Like I said, she’s always there for you!

Recently, I learned that Ina Garten hates cilantro. This really threw me for a loop! I kept thinking back on all those shots of Ina chopping up fresh herbs on her cutting board with her trusty knife. And then I started wondering if Ina Garten has a favorite knife (welcome to my brain!). Turns out that she does have a preferred knife, and it’s from a German brand.

What is Ina Garten’s favorite type of Knife?

Ina swears by German brand Wüsthof Classic for her kitchen knives. And I’m going to call it out right now: Yes, they can be expensive. But according to Ina, knives are the most important tool for any home cook. If you’ve ever tried to chop a bunch of veggies with a bad knife, then you know this is true.

The great thing about knives is that you only really need one good one and you’re set. A versatile chef’s knife is a one-time investment that can really take your cooking to the next level—especially if you take care to maintain it. You can find a Wüsthof Classic 6-inch chef’s knife on Amazon for $135 (and for $145, you can have it custom engraved, which would make a really great gift!).

WÜSTHOF Classic Chef’s Knife

Want to cook like Ina? Pick up your own chef's knife in a variety of sizes and colors.

If you want a more budget-friendly option that isn’t going to skimp on quality, I recommend the IKEA 365+ brand vegetable knife. It costs $19.99, and I’ve used mine everyday for years with no complaints.

But regardless of what knife you choose to buy, the most important thing is taking care of it. Don’t use the knife edge to scrape chopped veggies into a pot, as this can make it dull. Use a bench scraper or the spine of the knife if you must. Make sure you’re storing it correctly, too. Ina actually stores her knives sharp side up in a knife block so she isn’t constantly scraping the blade on the wood. Finally, learn to sharpen a knife so that yours can cut well for years to come.

Jennifer Aniston’s Favorite Pasta Recipe Doesn’t Use Oil, Butter or Cream https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/jennifer-aniston-pasta-recipe/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 12:23:50 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2135266 Nothing says "I'll be there for you" like a tasty pasta dish.

The post Jennifer Aniston’s Favorite Pasta Recipe Doesn’t Use Oil, Butter or Cream appeared first on Taste Recipes.

I think one of my favorite pieces of Friends trivia isn’t even about the show itself, but about the lunch habits of one of its stars. Apparently, Jennifer Aniston used to order the same thing for lunch every single day—which seems to be a bit of a trend for actors when filming, because Selena Gomez does it, too.

Jen’s go-to lunch was a Cobb salad variation that included turkey bacon and garbanzo beans. Apparently, the salad was so good that both Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow started ordering it as well!

While Monica may have been the chef in Friends, it turns out that Rachel secretly had an amazing pasta recipe in her back pocket the whole time.

What is Jennifer Aniston’s favorite pasta recipe?

According to People, she makes a version of carbonara that doesn’t use any oil, butter or cream. While this may sound different from your typical restaurant dish, it’s more in line with a traditional carbonara recipe, which doesn’t call for any cream. Personally, I love when peas are added to carbonara, but I know that is as divisive as pineapple on pizza or raisins in carrot cake, so let’s move on.

Jen’s recipe is simple and only calls for seven ingredients: spaghetti, turkey bacon, red onion, garlic, egg, milk and Parmesan cheese. She uses low-fat milk, but any milk you use will result in a lighter dish than using cream. You can also add as much or as little cheese as you’d like to really customize it to your taste.

I think what’s really nice about this dish is that you probably already have most of the ingredients on hand. Which is the case for a lot of basic Italian recipes, so no matter what life throws at you, you can still have dinner on the table in about 30 minutes!

This Cult-Fave Dairy Queen Treat Is Discontinued, But You Can Still Order It With This Menu Hack https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/dairy-queen-smores-galore-parfait/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 12:00:26 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2122134 The S'mores Galore Parfait is layered with that signature DQ vanilla soft serve, hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, and graham cracker crumbs.

The post This Cult-Fave Dairy Queen Treat Is Discontinued, But You Can Still Order It With This Menu Hack appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Dairy Queen will always occupy a special a place in my heart. There was one next to my childhood dance studio, and I just know they hated to see a group of tweens coming, wadded-up dollar bills in hand. Sometimes when I eat a Blizzard, I close my eyes and am immediately transported back to a world of tights, hairspray, sequins and interpersonal drama.

But I do have one bone to pick with DQ. My absolute favorite treat was taken off the menu years ago. And considering that a Change.org petition was started in 2018 to demand this item be brought back, I’m far from the only one who’s upset.

I’m talking, of course, about the S’mores Galore Parfait.

What is the S’mores Galore Parfait?

It’s incredibly hard to describe perfection, but I’ll give it a go. Fans of the decidedly inferior Peanut Buster Parfait will already know where to begin (I don’t know why they kept that parfait and got rid of my baby).

The S’mores Galore Parfait is layered with that signature DQ vanilla soft serve, hot fudge, marshmallow sauce and graham cracker crumbs. If you’re thinking, That’s it?, then I need you to think again. I’ll enumerate the perfection:

 1. Vanilla soft serve: The perfect base for any treat. It’s cold, sweet and incredibly creamy.
 2. Hot fudge: This is far superior to regular ol’ chocolate sauce. The contrast of warmth against the cool soft serve is a delight for the senses.
 3. Marshmallow sauce: This is literally the secret sauce, and I don’t understand why it isn’t used in more desserts. Anyone who thinks it’s “too sweet” needs to grow up.
 4. Graham cracker crumbs: The best way to add a little texture and flavor to each bite, graham cracker crumbs are far superior to nuts, which can be too hard. The delicate crumble of a graham cracker is the perfect accompaniment to the other ingredients.

These four ingredients work so beautifully together, and none of them outshines the others. It’s a symphony of a dessert. And it begs the question: Why did Dairy Queen ever take it off the menu? Well, they kind of … didn’t. Let me explain.

How can you order the S’mores Galore Parfait?

While Dairy Queen will always have their soft serve, hot fudge and marshmallow sauce on the menu, the graham cracker crumbs are more of a seasonal or specialty item. In order to get the S’mores Galore Parfait, you need to go to a DQ when the S’mores Blizzard is available. You guessed it: Graham cracker crumbs are one of the ingredients in the S’mores Blizzard.

I went to my local Dairy Queen on a quiet, rainy afternoon to see if they could make the treat. First, I just tried asking for the S’mores Galore Parfait by name. The cashier said he wasn’t familiar with it, and asked me if I had a photo.

I showed him the photo and said that it was similar to a Peanut Buster Parfait, and started naming off the ingredients. At this point, another employee came around the corner, saw the photo and immediately said, “Oh yeah, I can make that!” I was so pleasantly surprised that it was that easy! Not only did the second employee spring into action, but she showed the first employee how to make it.

When I took the first bite of my S’mores Galore Parfait, I felt instant bliss. It was so nice to enjoy a treat from my childhood again! A bonus was that the DQ employee actually added a new ingredient to the bottom layer: the marshmallow-filled chocolate bars from the S’mores Blizzard!

I have to say, this 2025 upgraded version might be the best Dairy Queen treat I’ve ever had. Don’t believe me? Go try one for yourself!

]]>
Katy Perry has been making music—and headlines—for almost 20 years. She pivoted from gospel music to pop in the early 2000s, and her career has been a whirlwind of singles ever since.

You simply could not turn on the radio in 2010 without hearing some of the catchiest tunes of the decade, like “California Girls,” “Firework” and my personal favorite, “Teenage Dream.”When she’s not dropping a new album, she’s heading into outer space! Pop stars, they really can have it all.

Even if you’re excited to blast off into space, it’s still a little bit frightening. So when Katy Perry got back to earth, I couldn’t help but wonder if she reached for her favorite comfort food. Does she reach for fast food, like Zendaya? Or a doctored Diet Coke, like Dua Lipa? Here’s what I found out.

What is Katy Perry’s favorite comfort food?

If you’ve watched any of her music videos, you might think that this whipped cream and Maraschino cherry aficionado has a sweet tooth. So I was surprised to find out that her favorite comfort food is actually something savory. She loves chicken nuggets!

Not just any chicken nugget, though. She has a particular shape of nugget that she reaches for when she needs that extra TLC. “My comfort food is chicken nuggets, but only the boot-shaped ones,” she told US Weekly.

I wonder why the boot-shaped nug takes up so much space (ha!) in Katy’s heart. I have to assume that she is talking about McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets, which famously come in four different shapes: bell, ball, bone and boot. Maybe she likes the boot so much because it’s the easiest to dip into sauce. Or maybe she likes that shape because she is a big fashion girlie who wants the shoe option whenever possible. Either way, the next time your hunger pains “Roar,” try out Katy’s favorite comfort food!

Apple Juice Recall: 7,234 Cases Recalled for Potential Mold Contamination https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/apple-juice-recall-2025/ Wed, 23 Apr 2025 20:35:42 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2136379 This popular apple juice was distributed in 28 states.

The post Apple Juice Recall: 7,234 Cases Recalled for Potential Mold Contamination appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
If you or your kids like to start the day with apple juice, it’s extra important to check the label. We learned from a recall announcement shared with grocery stores that Martinelli’s apple juice (in cute glass bottles shaped like apples) could contain mold.

What caused the recall?

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Martinelli’s recalled 7,234 cases of apple juice because of potential contamination with patulin.

If you didn’t know what patulin is, that’s OK—I didn’t either, until I looked it up. I learned that patulin is a mycotoxin, aka a toxic substance produced by mold. When apples grow mold, that mold produces patulin. If the contaminated apples are used to create juice, then that juice would also contain elevated levels of patulin.

Since it’s a toxin, elevated patulin levels can make you sick. If you eat or drink something contaminated with patulin, you could experience a stomachache, nausea or vomiting.

This recall was originally shared on March 18, but was very recently classified as a Class II recall on April 22. There are three levels of classification for recalls, and Class II means “use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” according to the FDA.

What stores sold the apple juice?

No specific retailers were identified in the recall shared by the FDA, so check your juice regardless of where you shop. And this apple juice was distributed to a lot of states.

The apple juice was produced by S. Martinelli & Company and distributed to stores in 28 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

How do I know if I have a recalled apple juice?

Thankfully, this recall only affects one lot of Martinelli’s apple juice. Like I mentioned before, this juice comes in a pack of bulbous glass jars with white metal lids. Here’s what to look for on the label:

Martinelli’s Apple Juice

 • Size: 4 10-ounce bottles
 • UPC: 0 41244 04102 2
 • Best by date: 05 DEC 2026

What should I do next?

If you have any of the apple juice, don’t drink it. Throw it out, or return it to the store where you bought it. If you or your kids drink the juice and feel ill, go to the doctor. And if you have any specific questions about the apple juice, contact Martinelli’s directly at 1 (800) 622-1868.

This Popular Aldi Product Is Not Safe to Eat, According to the USDA https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/aldi-pork-carnitas-2025/ Mon, 21 Apr 2025 17:22:02 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2135616 Check your fridge and freezer before you make dinner.

The post This Popular Aldi Product Is Not Safe to Eat, According to the USDA appeared first on Taste Recipes.

Aldi is the king of budget-friendly kitchen staples. Arguably, the best deals in the store are on its house brands, most of which have a cult-like following. People swear by Mama Cozzi’s pizza and Friendly Farms dairy. There’s one Aldi brand in trouble right now, though: Park Street Deli.

Before you start whipping up a weeknight meal, check your refrigerator for Park Street Deli heat-and-serve pork carnitas, because they may contain pieces of metal.

What caused the health alert?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued this public health alert for the pork carnitas. During routine maintenance, the manufacturer found equipment damage that indicates the possibility of metal pieces contaminating the carnitas.

Pieces of metal would definitely be dangerous to ingest, so the FSIS wants to make sure that no one eats the product. Fortunately, there haven’t been any reports of illness or injury yet.

This isn’t technically a recall because the pork carnitas aren’t for sale at the grocery store anymore. But customers could easily still have them at home.

What stores sold the pork carnitas?

This is an Aldi-exclusive product, so it was only available at Aldi stores. The health alert says that the pork carnitas were shipped to Aldi stores nationwide, so it does affect all Aldi locations in the United States.

How do I know if I have the pork carnitas?

This health alert affects exactly one product. Even though they are no longer available for purchase at Aldi, the FSIS wants to make sure everyone checks their fridge and freezer for the product. In the bottom right corner of the package is a small white circle that contains the USDA establishment number, which for the affected lot of carnitas is 46049.

Pork Carnitas Seasoned & Seared Pork with Juices Slow Cooked with Citrus

 • Size: 16-oz tray
 • Use by dates: 06/30/2025 or 07/01/2025

What should I do next?

If you have any of the pork carnitas, don’t eat them, even if they look fine. You can throw them away, or bring them back to Aldi for a refund. If you have eaten the carnitas and feel sick, call your doctor ASAP.

This Is the One Ingredient Ina Garten Will Never Use in a Recipe https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/ina-garten-cilantro/ Sun, 20 Apr 2025 15:01:55 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2133514 Don't bring this into her kitchen!

The post This Is the One Ingredient Ina Garten Will Never Use in a Recipe appeared first on Taste Recipes.

Ina Garten is truly a domestic goddess. For as long as I can remember, she’s been capturing our hearts and stomachs with one knockout recipe after another.

While we know a lot of her favorite foods to cook and eat, like this delightfully simple dessert or the side dish she says goes with everything, we don’t know a lot about the foods she dislikes.

But, if you look closely at all of the recipes that Ina has put together over the years, you’ll notice that one ingredient never makes the cut. And I have to say, it’s not altogether surprising.

What is the one ingredient Ina Garten never cooks with?

It’s a common ingredient for people to dislike. Say it with me: cilantro! Listen, as a cilantro lover, I expected more from Ina. But apparently, she isn’t alone. Her fellow domestic goddess, Julia Child, also hated the herb.

Ina’s reasoning is straightforward and will sound familiar to anyone who has ever gone out for tacos with a new group of people. “It’s such a strong flavor and it overwhelms everything else and I actually think it’s physiological,” she said on the Today show. And she definitely has a point, there is a reason why some people can’t stand the flavor.

Why is cilantro so divisive?

There is science to back up Ina’s claim that her disdain is “physiological.” You might be cursed (or blessed, who’s to say) with what is colloquially referred to as the soap gene. Some people’s DNA is wired in a way where cilantro tastes like soap or dirt or is oddly metallic.

If you are one of the soap gene-havers, it’s OK. You can still use fresh herbs in your dishes. Parsley is a great way to add depth of flavor and a hint of herby brightness to a dish. Or you can forgo it altogether—one less thing to get stuck in your teeth!

This Was Princess Diana’s All-Time Favorite Dessert https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/princess-diana-favorite-dessert/ Fri, 18 Apr 2025 21:59:09 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2127216 It's a surprisingly low-key treat for a royal.

The post This Was Princess Diana’s All-Time Favorite Dessert appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Princess Diana remains one of the most fascinating members of the British royal family, even decades after her untimely demise. She is still a style icon, and I personally look forward to that time of year when everyone dons the Princess Diana “uniform” of crewneck sweatshirts and bike shorts.

Aside from her sartorial choices, we also know quite a bit about what she liked to eat. That’s all thanks to Darren McGrady, the former royal chef for Buckingham Palace. He’s the one who used to keep a private snack fridge in the palace kitchen just for her.

What was Princess Diana’s favorite dessert?

According to McGrady, Princess Diana enjoyed a classic British staple: bread and butter pudding. The recipe comes from his book, Eating Royally, and he notes that she absolutely loved eating it during holidays.

Bread pudding can be kind of a divisive dessert, at least here in the United States, because people either love it or hate it. (For the record, I am a huge fan, so I guess that means I have the same taste as Princess Diana.) The British version is slightly different, and admittedly more elegant. Instead of using torn or cubed pieces of bread and crust, it keeps the toast intact in a triangle shape. It’s then layered and baked in a buttered dish, so the end result looks like a fancy bread casserole.

Another thing that makes this dessert feel more elegant isn’t necessarily an ingredient, it’s just the fact that it takes time. The recipe calls for raisins to be soaked in amaretto overnight, so it’s not something that can be thrown together quickly when guests—or royalty—come to call. Overall, the end result is a rich, comforting dessert fit for a princess.

Giada De Laurentiis Has This for Breakfast Every Single Morning https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/giada-de-laurentiis-breakfast/ Fri, 18 Apr 2025 14:05:57 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2134806 She had to switch up her morning routine from espresso to something gentler for her stomach.

The post Giada De Laurentiis Has This for Breakfast Every Single Morning appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Giada De Laurentiis has become pretty much synonymous with Italian cuisine. Her twists on classic dishes and easy weeknight meals are mainstays in so many kitchens. But the Everyday Italian host shocked me when she told me she no longer drinks espresso in the morning! What could be more Italian than a daily double shot?

I recently spoke to Giada over the phone about her new partnership with Peroni beer. We talked about all things Peroni, of course, and she shared that she even uses the beer to make a perfectly crispy pizza crust! She also told me about the unique way she uses up leftover Easter chocolate, which is actually pretty genius. Then I asked her about her morning routine, which is when she dropped the espresso truth bomb.

What does Giada De Laurentiis eat for breakfast every day?

“I start my day with a cup of chicken broth with a scoop of collagen,” she said. “I know that sounds strange, but it really works for me. I used to start my day with a double espresso and I realized in my 50s that my stomach wasn’t loving that habit after all these years.”

While it is shocking, it totally makes sense. Coffee is pretty acidic, and can be hard on the stomach. Giada said she loved the habit of drinking something warm first thing in the morning, though, which is why she switched to broth. But she doesn’t stop there.

“After that, I will have either buckwheat cereal or oatmeal, and both of them would be savory with olive oil.” I remember when Giada posted about her olive oil oatmeal on Instagram, and people were pretty surprised to see a savory version of the breakfast staple. But oats are a great neutral base, ready to be dressed up however you want!

And lest you think that any travel might change up her morning routine, that isn’t the case. “If I’m on the road, then I’ll just go get an oatmeal from Starbucks and I make it work,” she said. As someone who cannot keep to a routine while traveling, this is the kind of discipline I admire!

Sabrina Carpenter Is Waiting to Eat McDonald’s Until This One Thing Happens https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/sabrina-carpenter-mcdonalds-2025/ Thu, 17 Apr 2025 21:15:58 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2134496 Do you think she'll order an "Espresso" from the McCafé?

The post Sabrina Carpenter Is Waiting to Eat McDonald’s Until This One Thing Happens appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Sabrina Carpenter took the world by storm last year. Though she got her start on a television show years ago (like fellow Disney Channel alum Selena Gomez), she only recently entered the annals of pop stardom. She spent last summer as one of the opening acts for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and her hit single, “Espresso,” was a chart-topping hit for weeks on end. The song is so catchy, I officially challenge you not to hum it while you read this story.

Naturally, Sabrina has been everywhere on the internet. In an interview with LADBible, she revealed that she has never eaten at McDonald’s before. Shocking, I know! But what’s even more curious is that she has a specific goal she wants to accomplish before indulging in her first Big Mac.

Why is Sabrina Carpenter waiting to eat at McDonald’s?

Initially, when I had heard that Sabrina had never eaten at McDonald’s, I thought of two things. First, I wondered if she didn’t think McDonald’s was very healthy. And second, I felt sorry about the fact that she has never indulged in the simplicity of a perfect McDonald’s hash brown!

But according to this interview, it’s not that she doesn’t want to eat under the golden arches. It’s just that she is waiting for a specific achievement before she allows herself to enjoy it in all its glory.

It didn’t take any time at all for fans to pull it all together and theorize that Sabrina was waiting for her first Grammy before grabbing a Snack Wrap. The interview with LADBible took place in 2024, and Sabrina won not just one, but two Grammys at the 2025 ceremony in February.

As far as professional goals go, there really isn’t a higher honor for a musician than winning a Grammy, so it makes sense to speculate that this career achievement means she will finally go to McDonald’s. Let’s see if she enjoys the “Taste” of a McMuffin as much as the rest of the world does!

Zendaya’s Go-To Fast-Food Order Is a Secret Menu Hack—Here’s How to Get It https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/zendayas-fast-food-in-n-out/ Wed, 16 Apr 2025 22:28:10 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2134472 She's got this hack down to a science!

The post Zendaya’s Go-To Fast-Food Order Is a Secret Menu Hack—Here’s How to Get It appeared first on Taste Recipes.

]]>
Zendaya is one of the most famous actors of her generation. You’ve probably come across her in HBO’s Euphoria, in one of the new Spider-Man movies (alongside her fiancé, Tom Holland) or on the red carpet in a stunning archival look. Regardless, when Zendaya shows up, you know she brings her A game.

Die-hard Zendaya fans (Zans? Zen-heads?) know that she’s a vegetarian. While that does take a lot of fast-food options off her plate, she is a California girl through and through because she loves In-N-Out Burger. And there is a way to enjoy the menu even if you don’t eat meat.

What is Zendaya’s go-to In-N-Out order?

Even if you have never been to In-N-Out, you know that this West Coast chain is famous for its menu. The very limited menu only has five options: a cheeseburger, a hamburger, fries, soft drinks and shakes. It seems simple, right? But wait, there’s more!

Part of In-N-Out’s lore is its infamous secret menu, which circulated by word of mouth and internet forums for years. When Zendaya goes to In-N-Out, she simply orders the “Grilled Cheese.” It’s two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato, spread, and onions on a bun. Basically, a cheeseburger minus the burger part. She likes to order hers with extra In-N-Out spread (a mix of ketchup, mayo, pickle relish and other spices) and grilled onions.

This is a great hack for anyone looking for vegetarian fast food. I was a vegetarian for years and I can confirm that this is a really good tip, and it’s one you can use at most fast-food restaurants.

However, if you want my opinion, Taco Bell remains the undisputed king of vegetarian fast-food options. Don’t believe me? Ask for a Cheesy Gordita Crunch with potatoes instead of beef. You’re welcome!

Trader Joe’s is a miracle of a grocery store if you love to indulge in “little treat” culture. Hard day at work? Bad night of sleep? Go ahead, get a little treat. Even Timothée Chalamet likes a little treat from Trader Joe’s.

In my opinion, the best treat at TJ’s is a seasonal one that’s only available for an extremely limited run. Every year, fans eagerly await for it to appear on Trader Joe’s shelves. It’s like the ultimate sign that spring is officially here—and that it’s going to be delicious.

I’m talking, of course, about the Trader Joe’s Carrot Mini Sheet Cake.

What is so special about Trader Joe’s carrot cake?

OK, first of all, it’s cute. It’s a tiny little sheet cake with adorably piped cream cheese dressing. It makes for a delectable afternoon treat—in fact, some enthusiasts even carry forks in their purses so they’re always prepared to dig in.

Aside from the aesthetics, fans go nuts about it because it contains no raisins. Raisins are a divisive addition to a lot of recipes, but the raisin-haters win here. Fans also like that it contains walnut meal as opposed to large chunks of nuts that can be difficult to chew. Basically, it’s all the best carrot cake flavors without anything to stop you from enjoying it very quickly—perhaps before anyone sees that you have it and asks for a bite.

Ultimately, the best part about the cake is the cream cheese icing on top. I cannot stress how imperative good icing is to carrot cake, and this one, well, takes the cake! It’s important that you inspect each of the mini sheet cakes and get one that has the frosting piped all the way to the edge—Reddit users have noted that edges and corners on some cakes are woefully under-frosted.

How long will the carrot cakes be available?

I don’t want to be dramatic, but you should stop reading this story and drive straight to Trader Joe’s if you want one. They’re only available for a limited time, and that fact, combined with their cult status, makes them disappear from shelves quickly.

The cakes hit stores this week, and their continued availability is totally dependent on the shopping habits of your fellow Trader Joe’s enthusiasts. Pack up your TJ’s cooler bag and go!

The Pioneer Woman Admits That This Was Her Worst Recipe Ever https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/pioneer-woman-worst-recipe/ Wed, 16 Apr 2025 12:34:06 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2133385 It turns out that even kitchen legends have bad days.

I’m sure we can all think of a time a dish just didn’t work—like at all. Maybe it was a mistake that happened because you misread the recipe and used a tablespoon of cayenne pepper instead of a teaspoon (ask me about the Inedibly Spicy Lentil Incident of 2014). It could also be an error due to a lack of cooking experience, like in Bridget Jones’ Diary, where Bridget ties her leeks together with blue string, and the entire soup turns blue.

The Pioneer Woman is not someone who I would put in either category, though. Ree Drummond is the undisputed queen of comfort food and potluck-ready meals, so I was very surprised to learn that she once had a dessert recipe go horribly wrong.

What is the Pioneer Woman’s worst recipe ever?

In an interview on her blog, she recalled the dish that she would never make again: green tea ice cream. She made the dish for a ladies’ investment club luncheon, so maybe she was trying to go on theme with a money-green dessert? Anyway, according to Ree, the dish was a complete mess.

She cut open actual green tea bags and pulverized the tea leaves in a food processor before adding them to her ice cream base. The result was, ahem, pretty unappealing. “It looked like mossy green sludge,” she said. “And I still served it…there were about 23 bowls, and no one ate any of it.” Talk about a rough afternoon!

Now, I’m no Ree, but I think where she went wrong was using the tea from the tea bags. Something that might result in a more vibrant green tea ice cream would be matcha powder. It has a bright green hue that blends better with all kinds of treats, from lattes to cakes. I know she said she would never make it again, but I’m pulling for a redemption!

Selena Gomez Eats the Same Thing for Lunch Every Single Day https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/selena-gomez-favorite-sandwich/ Wed, 16 Apr 2025 12:28:42 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2133597 She has a routine and it sounds pretty delicious.

When Selena Gomez isn’t releasing new music or starring in Only Murders in the Building, she is most likely cooking. The multi-hyphenate happens to be a huge foodie, which, besides being relatable, is also very entertaining. She even has her own Emmy-nominated show called Selena + Chef, in which she cooks with world-renowned chefs like Padma Lakshmi, Jamie Oliver and others.

If she’s spending a long day on set, there’s exactly one thing she can look forward to: lunch. And as a queen of routine, she usually orders the exact same thing every day.

What does Selena Gomez eat for lunch?

“My go-to lunch order is a chicken salad sandwich with grapes,” she says in a TikTok interview with Food Network. “It’s my favorite and it’s easy and I always get it.” She always gets a pickle on the side, which is an absolute necessity. In fact, she loves pickles so much she used to eat pickle-flavored snow cones as a kid.

But back to the sandwich. It’s true, chicken salad is a quintessential lunch option. It’s refreshing, easy to make, and satisfying to eat year-round. I agree with Selena that the grapes are a must, although I know that can be a bit divisive. Some of the best versions of the sandwich are served in a croissant, but any bread is more than fine. And if you don’t have time to cook chicken for your own salad, you can easily use a rotisserie chicken instead.

Chicken salad, much like tuna salad, can be customized to your preferences and made with whatever you have lying around. Even Matthew McConaughey takes the “kitchen sink” approach to his viral chicken salad recipe and tuna salad recipe. So next time you’re hungry and want to channel your inner Selena, reach for this deli staple!

Giada De Laurentiis Uses Leftover Easter Chocolate for This Dessert Recipe, and It’s Genius https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/giada-di-laurentiis-chocolate-dessert/ Wed, 16 Apr 2025 12:01:44 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2133497 I mean, assuming she has any leftover chocolate, of course.

The post Giada De Laurentiis Uses Leftover Easter Chocolate for This Dessert Recipe, and It’s Genius appeared first on Taste Recipes.

Giada De Laurentiis absolutely loves two things: family and food. Pretty much all her recipes are infused with tradition and comfort, especially with dishes like her Caprese dip and lemon spaghetti.

I recently had a chance to catch up with Giada over the phone. She told me all about her new partnership with Peroni—and shared her favorite Peroni recipe—and she also answered perhaps the most difficult question of all: What’s your favorite dessert?

“Oh my God, chocolate. I love chocolate,” she said. “Maybe more than anyone else I know!” I agree with her, especially since she created this viral chocolate pasta recipe. But there is one specific way that she blends this love of chocolate with her family’s Easter tradition.

What recipe does Giada use leftover Easter chocolate in?

In Italy, giant chocolate Easter eggs are an absolute must-have for celebrating the holiday. “It’s a tradition we’ve had ever since I was a kid,” she said about the chocolate eggs. She’s looking forward to Easter this year so she can make her favorite dessert: her Vegas chocolate chip cookies.

The recipe calls for a mix of dark and semi-sweet chocolate, but she notes that you can use chips, chunks or leftover chocolate. It’s a recipe that is close to her heart since it combines the flavors she loves with a family tradition she’s been following her entire life.

The Vegas chocolate chip cookies are a pretty straightforward dessert recipe if you want to get in on some sweet cookie action post-Easter. I don’t know if I’ve ever been able to save any of my Easter chocolate for longer than one day, but if anyone is going to convince me that it’s worth it, it’s Giada!

Soup Recall: Several Popular Brands of Soup May Contain Bits of Wood https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/soup-recall-april-2025/ Mon, 14 Apr 2025 18:52:28 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2133372 No one wants to eat soup with "foreign material" in every spoonful!

Pair your next main dish with a salad instead of soup. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspections Service (FDIS) issued a public health alert for several brands of soup and soup bowls. The products could contain bits of wood.

What caused the recall?

FSIS issued this health alert because of the cilantro in certain soups. It’s not because cilantro tastes like soap, though. In this case, the cilantro was previously recalled because it was contaminated with wood.

What stores sold the soups and bowls?

So far, we know the soups and bowls were shipped to retail and institutional locations in four states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. FSIS expects to add other products to its health alert list, though, which means this issue could soon be nationwide.

The health alert doesn’t name specific grocery stores or fast-food chains that sold this soup, so be aware regardless of where you shop or eat!

How do I know if I have a recalled soup or bowl?

Right now, 13 products could contain the recalled cilantro:

 • Campbell’s Chicken Tortilla Soup

FSIS expects to update its product list with more soups, so we’ll add updates as we see them.

What should I do next?

Don’t eat any of the soups or bowls listed above. Instead, toss them out or return them to the store. Be aware of what you’re ordering when you eat out, too.

If you need to report a problem with any soup or bowl that’s not on the list above, use the FSIS Consumer Complaint Form.

Galactic stars, they’re just like us! Baking is a hobby enjoyed by many famous people; both Taylor Swift’s chai cookies and Chrissy Teigen’s banana bread have gotten the Taste Recipes seal of approval. And as it turns out, William Shatner is another celebrity who likes to mix up delicious treats.

So it’s official, Captain Kirk loves to bake. Although in my opinion, baking seems more like a Spock thing, given the precision. Now I’m imaging the cast of Star Trek on an episode of The Great British Baking Show, which sounds absolutely delightful. “Damn it Jim, I’m a doctor not a baker!” Anyway, William Shatner’s go-to muffin recipe certainly looks like it could win first place in a “Signature Challenge.”

What is William Shatner’s muffin recipe?

The famous William Shatner muffin recipe is one that goes slightly viral on the Internet every few years. His cappuccino muffins come together with just 11 simple ingredients, 10 of which I bet you already have in the kitchen.

There is one secret ingredient that really makes these muffins sing: espresso powder! You can use espresso or instant coffee; either one will give the muffins that distinctive coffee flavor. When combined with the cinnamon and chocolate chips, it practically screams coffee house!

Captain Kirk’s muffins would be a perfect accompaniment to any Easter brunch spread or spring potluck. If you want to make them look extra special, use our bakery-style muffin tips for sky-high tops and an airy crumb. Live long and prosper!

This Is What Queen Elizabeth Gave Up for Lent Every Year https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/queen-elizabeth-gave-up-lent/ Wed, 09 Apr 2025 22:11:45 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=2130491 For 40 days every Lenten season, the Queen would put her royal sweet tooth on hold.

The post This Is What Queen Elizabeth Gave Up for Lent Every Year appeared first on Taste Recipes.

Queen Elizabeth is known for many things: her corgis, her little black handbag and her disdain for garlic chief among them. During her reign, she was also the head of the Church of England, so her faith was an important aspect of her personality. In fact, the Queen gave up the same thing for Lent every single year. And she lived for a long time! 96 years, to be exact. We know it was one of her favorite foods, so we applaud the commitment.

For the uninitiated, Lent is a period of fasting and reflection in Christianity that starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. Typically, people choose to “give up” something for the duration of Lent.

The idea is that it should be something that requires sacrifice. For example, I routinely gave up soda during Lent as a child. But there was one year that I made the difficult decision to give up the same sweet treat as the Queen.

What did Queen Elizabeth give up for Lent every year?

It’s chocolate! This was, without a doubt, the Queen’s favorite sweet, according to former royal chef Darren McGrady. In fact, chocolate was strictly forbidden in the royal household during Lent. In his book, Eating Royally, he mentions that the chefs would go to great lengths to prepare a feast of chocolates for her to enjoy on Easter Sunday.

Luckily, the Queen’s April 21 birthday was always after Lent, even though she was cutting it close. She always celebrated with the same thing: a big chocolate cake. McGrady says that the kitchen would prepare a twelve-inch chocolate layer cake covered in chocolate ganache. It was decorated with a simple “Happy Birthday” written on top in royal icing. Talk about a cake fit for a queen!
