With just four ingredients, these Halloween brownies are the perfect, quick, last-minute Halloween dessert to whip up for a party or spooky movie night. Bake your favorite brownie mix, cut out circles and stick on candy eyes and chocolate-covered lo mein noodles for eight long-limbed spider legs. Seriously, that’s all you need to do to make these spooky spider brownies. Set them out among your other Halloween snacks to complete your spread. Boo!

Halloween Brownies Ingredients

  • Brownie mix: Since these Halloween brownies use so few ingredients, splurge on one of the best brownie mixes from the store.
  • Semisweet chocolate chips: We’ll melt the chocolate chips to use them as edible “glue” to stick the eyeballs onto the brownies and to cover the lo mein noodles.
  • Crispy lo mein noodles: Pick up a canister of crispy lo mein noodles from the grocery store for the spider’s eight legs.
  • Candy eyeballs: You can find candy eyeballs at craft stores like Michaels or Jo-Ann. Target and Amazon usually stock them, too.

Directions

Step 1: Bake the brownies

Prepare and bake the brownies according to the package directions using an 8-inch square baking pan lined with parchment. Cool the brownies completely in a pan on a wire rack.

Step 2: Melt the chocolate

Step 4: Cut the brownies

Use a 2-1/4-inch round cutter to cut nine brownies for the spider bodies. Try to cut the circles as close together as possible to maximize area space and the number of edible spiders you’ll be able to create.

Step 5: Attach the eyeballs

Attach the eyeballs using the reserved melted chocolate.

Editor’s Tip: You may need to zap the chocolate in the microwave again to remelt it. Chocolate burns easily in the microwave, so do this in 5- to 10-second intervals

Step 6: Stick on the legs

With a bamboo skewer or toothpick, poke eight holes in the top of each spider to insert the legs. Stick a coated noodle into each hole.

Recipe Variations

  • Pipe on spider webs: Cut a few of the brownies into squares or rectangles, melt white chocolate or make vanilla frosting and pipe on a spooky spider web. Place them around the spider brownies so it looks like they made yummy little spider webs!
  • Swap for pretzel pieces: Can’t find lo mein noodles? Buy a bag of hard pretzels and snap the curved edges away to use as the legs.
  • Add texture to the body: Before adding the legs and eyes, spread a smidgen of chocolate frosting in the center of each brownie, turn the brownie upside-down and press the frosting into a plate of chocolate sprinkles. The spider will look like it has a hairy body!

How to Store Halloween Brownies

Transfer any leftover Halloween brownies to an airtight container. They can sit at room temperature for up to four days.

Can you freeze Halloween brownies?

Yes, you can freeze Halloween brownies, but we recommend taking off the eyes first and storing them in an airtight container at room temperature. Otherwise, after they’re frozen and come to room temperature, the condensation may make the colors weep. No crying spiders here!

Place your Halloween brownies in an airtight, freezer-safe container and stash them in the freezer for up to two months. Thaw them at room temperature when you’re ready to enjoy them again.
