Creamy Crab Wontons

How about a fast festive appetizer just for two? These hot, crispy crab wontons boast a rich and creamy filling. They simply melt in your mouth. —Robin Boynton, Harbor Beach, Michigan

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons canned crabmeat, drained, flaked and cartilage removed
  • 2 teaspoons chopped green onion
  • 6 wonton wrappers
  • Oil for frying
  • Sweet-and-sour sauce, optional

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, crab and onion. Place 1 rounded teaspoon filling in center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten wrapper edges with water. Fold in half lengthwise away from you, forming a rectangle; press firmly to seal.
  2. Keeping filling in the center, moisten bottom left corner of rectangle with water. Curve wonton rectangle toward you, bringing bottom right corner over bottom left corner; press firmly to seal (a finished wonton resembles a nurse's hat).
  3. In a deep cast-iron or electric skillet, heat 1 in. oil to 375°. Fry wontons on each side until golden brown, 1-2 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Serve warm, with sauce if desired.
