Fun to make and easy to enjoy, easy tortilla pinwheels are a food everyone will love and that you can customize in many ways.

For a quick and easy lunch or dinner for both kids and adults, this easy pinwheels recipe is a winner. It’s a lovely choice for when you have to prepare a huge batch of food for a picnic or a party.

What’s more, this is a very flexible and forgiving recipe. Go ahead and try it as we have laid it out here, but then feel free to put your own spin on things, customizing as you will.

Easy Pinwheels Ingredients

  • Sour cream: We recommend a low-fat sour cream, though a regular sour cream is just fine too.
  • Cream cheese: The cream cheese needs to be softened for use in this recipe, so make sure to get it out of the fridge at least half an hour before you start the prep.
  • Green onions: The green onions should be finely sliced so their flavor blends into the dish, and so the texture is just right.
  • Cheddar cheese: Finely shredded cheddar cheese works best for this, so it blends into the filling.
  • Lime juice: Fresh lime juice is ideal, as it is packed with tangy flavor, but a bottled lime juice is fine.
  • Jalapeno pepper: Remove the seeds and any large ribs from the jalapenos before you mince them.
  • Flour tortillas: Flour tortillas are plain enough to let the other flavors shine.
  • Salsa or picante sauce: You can use mild or hot salsa, picante sauce or salsa verde; whatever sounds tasty.

Easy Pinwheels Recipe Variations

  • Go mild: You can replace the jalapeno with an equal amount of chopped bell pepper.
  • Spice it up: On the other hand, you can also add hot sauce or even use habanero peppers.
  • Add some guac: Guacamole is a wonderful addition to these pinwheel roll ups, just make sure you add enough lemon to the mixture so the guacamole does not turn brown.

How to Store Easy Pinwheels

You can store these pinwheel tortillas in the fridge for up to two days, but after that they should be discarded.

Can you freeze these pinwheels?

Unfortunately, these will not freeze well. They are really best eaten the same day they are made.

Easy Pinwheels Tips

Be careful of the capsaicin!

Wear disposable gloves when cutting hot peppers; the oils can burn your skin. And be sure to avoid touching your face until you wash up.

What should I serve with these tortilla pinwheels?

These are great with a crisp green salad and with a light protein such as roast chicken or fish.

What else can I add to these tortilla pinwheels?

A lot of people add bacon crumbles or cubed ham to increase both protein and flavor, and we think those are both great ideas.
