These were more time consuming than expected\u2014evenly cutting and separating the narrow pastry strips, crushing the peppermint candies. I used Starlight Mints because I couldn\u2019t find thin candy canes. Eventually I used blender (super-fast but can over-crush them) when I feared cracking the counter of the vacation rental I was staying in by using a rolling pin as a mallet. Also, it would have taken forever. The baked strips were light and a bit fragile (my daughter described them as \u201ceating air\u201d) after baking, so I too used a spoon to spread chocolate instead of dipping. Due to mild taste of pastry i felt it needed chocolate over the whole thing.\u00a0\nWould be cute with part white chocolate and part dark or milk. When I unfolded the pastry it was perfectly in thirds with the fold marks, so, I cut the pastry at the fold marks and then cut them into 1\/2\" x 3\" pieces, baked for 10-11min. I had vanilla CandyQuik, so I sprinkled with the crushed up candy canes, and grated dark chocolate. I found the dipping process wasn't working well and it was sloppy, so, instead, I used a teaspoon and just smeared one side across the whole piece with the melted candy and then sprinkled with the peppermint and chocolate. It went much faster and less messy. Overall the family loved them! And, I had a huge batch to give to the neighbors.
