Bought a head of red cabbage the other day with the express intention of frying it up with some bacon. Today I decided it was time to find a recipe and yours looked pretty good. I'm not a serious chef, but I really enjoy cooking and this recipe looked easy enough for me to give it a go.

Instead of steaming the cabbage on the stove, I used my Instant Pot, set for three minutes. Next time I'll set it for two. I think the cabbage was just a little too soft. Still, I went ahead and finished cooking, per the recipe. When it was all done I gave it a taste... It was kind of sour, but good. I decided I liked it. It was a success.

Then, to my chagrin, I noticed that I'd left out the brown sugar! DOH! Homer Simpson moment! I added in the sugar and cooked the cabbage for another couple of minutes.

This time the taste was sweet with just a hint of sour! It's delightful! I love it! Definitely going to make this dish again.

Note: Instead of using plain water, as the recipe called for, I used one half a cup of 'cabbage water' from the reservoir in my Instant Pot. I like to do this to save and use flavor and nutrients from the cabbage that cooking normally takes out.

@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
If you’ve braised, marinated or served red cabbage raw, try it steamed, then toss with bacon and a tangy sauce.
