We did not care for this as written. We are pretty sure it was the beer we didn't care for. Will make it again, however, as we love mushrooms and sweet potatoes, and are always looking for Meatless Monday ideas. A really tasty version of Shepherd's Pie! <\/p>

<\/p>

My husband is a new heart patient and so we are going low sodium and low cholesterol. He loves comfort food so I was so happy to find this recipe!<\/p>

<\/p>

I made this recipe in exactly half to yield for 4. It was a lot for me and my husband anyway and we had leftovers. <\/p>

<\/p>

I found that these additions and substitutions below gave more depth and umami to the dish. <\/p>

Here are my recommended changes and additions:<\/p>

Substitutions\/change in amounts:<\/p>

\u2022\u00a0I used Moose Drool Brown Ale and a little less than the recipe asks of. So for this yield, I used about 5 ounces. <\/p>

\u2022 I doubled the amount of garlic and rosemary<\/p>

\u2022 I substituted the soy sauce for a low-sodium steak sauce (this was the key!!)<\/p>

Additions:<\/p>

\u2022 quarter teaspoon of McCormick's Garlic and Herb all-purpose seasoning<\/p>

\u2022 quarter teaspoon Kinder's Brown Sugar rub<\/p>

\u2022 quarter teaspoon McCormick's Smokehouse Maple Seasoning<\/p>

\u2022 pinch of Kinder's Steak Blend<\/p>

\u2022 pinch of dried dill<\/p>

<\/p>

I baked this in a cast-iron pan instead of ramekins and after reading the comments here about it being kinda \"soupy\", I decided against the casserole dish. <\/p>

It turned out really awesome. Deep and complex flavors. It takes time to prep, but it was worth it! <\/p>

I wanted to make a single pie with a pastry crust, so I altered slightly. I started by blind baking the bottom crust.
