I was afraid that the toast was going to turn out \"mushy\" as some of the other recipes I have tried have but that was definitely not the case. The brown sugar turns into a wonderful caramel sauce. My friends loved it, asking for the recipe. Made this for a girls' week. It was sweet, sticky, and totally indulgent without any need for add-ons. I made the recipe as written but did make it a layer taller. I followed the directions exactly through the egg-soaked nine slices of bread. I then added another layer of bread, a layer of a cup of unsweetened applesauce, another layer of the brown sugar\/butter melt, then cinnamon sprinkled over the top. Chill overnight and followed the original directions. The result was over the top. No syrup necessary.","reviewRating":{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org\/","@type":"Rating","ratingValue":5,"worstRating":1,"bestRating":5}},{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org\/","@type":"Review","datePublished":"2009-08-17","author":{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org\/","@type":"Person","name":"macmarge"},"reviewBody":"We absolutley LOVED this recipe! I've made it 3 x's since for different gatherings just this year and this weekend I'm going to make it again for a family brunch for the next day after a family wedding. I can't wait to serve it to people who have not had it. I felt it was an easy recipe. And I always say about myself \"I'm not a suzie homemaker\".
