If you’re planning on eating pasta this week, you might want to make that dish from scratch instead of grabbing it from the fridge. FreshRealm is recalling three varieties of its ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals for possible listeria contamination. Here’s everything we know so far about the recall.

What caused the recall?

FreshRealm establishments told the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) that there was a possibility for some of its products to be “adulterated” with listeria monocytogenes.

According to the FSIS, this is the same strain of listeria that caused an outbreak resulting in 17 illnesses in 13 states. So far, there have been three deaths and one fetal loss associated with the outbreak. It is still an ongoing investigation, and the FSIS has identified specific FreshRealm chicken fettuccine Alfredo products as being a common item that some of the sick people have eaten.

What stores sold the chicken fettuccine Alfredo?

These products were sold nationwide at Kroger and Walmart stores. There is still a lot that we don’t know about the outbreak. But we do know that at least three specific chicken fettuccine Alfredo ready-to-eat meals have been identified as possible sources of listeria contamination.

How do I know if I have a recalled chicken fettuccine Alfredo?

If you bought ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo from Kroger or Walmart, check the labels. They should all have a USDA mark of inspection stamp with establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718” printed on the side of the packaging. Here’s what else to look for on the labels:

Please make sure to check your freezer as well if this is a product that you typically buy and freeze to reheat later. Freezing does not kill off the listeria bacteria, per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

What should I do next?

If you own any of the recalled products, do not consume them. You can throw them away, or bring them back to Kroger or Walmart for a refund. If you have consumed a recalled product and feel ill, seek medical attention. Any further questions about the recall can be directed to FreshRealm’s customer service line at 888-244-1562.
