Ingredients
- 1 pound uncooked elbow macaroni
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1-1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 cup shredded Romano cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 4 slices American cheese
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400°. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain; set aside.
- In a large sauce pot, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour; cook until lightly browned, whisking constantly, 1-2 minutes. Gradually add milk, cream, salt, pepper and paprika, cook until thickened, 3-4 minutes. Add 1 cup sharp cheddar, Romano, parmesan and American cheeses until cheeses have melted. Stir in cooked macaroni.
- Transfer mixture to a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup sharp cheddar. Bake until cheese is bubbly and edges are golden brown, 20-25 minutes.
