This frozen hot chocolate recipe uses real chocolate to make a creamy drink that's as rich and decadent as French hot chocolate. But since it's cold, you can sip it all year long!
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk, divided
- 5 ounces semisweet chocolate or chocolate of your choice, roughly chopped
- 4-1/2 teaspoons baking cocoa
- 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
- 4 cups ice cubes
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: Miniature marshmallows, chocolate sauce, whipped cream or sprinkles
Directions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup milk, chocolate, cocoa and confectioners' sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat, until chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth (do not boil), about 3 minutes.
- Transfer chocolate mixture to a blender. Add ice, vanilla and remaining 1 cup milk; cover and blend until smooth. Pour into glass. Garnish with toppings as desired.

Have fun with this iced hot chocolate recipe and try your family’s favorite toppings! Chocolate shavings and caramel sauce are great options. For the holidays, swap half a teaspoon of peppermint extract for the vanilla. —Lisa Kaminski, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin
