Don't feel like a drive to the bakery? Treat yourself to a homemade glazed chocolate doughnut. They're surprisingly simple to make.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup baking cocoa
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- GLAZE:
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 to 5 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350º. In a large bowl, whisk the first 6 ingredients. In another bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk and butter until blended. Add to dry ingredients; stir until blended (batter will be thick).
- Transfer batter to a pastry bag fitted with a round tip. Pipe into three 6-cavity doughnut pans coated with cooking spray, filling cavities two-thirds full.
- Bake until doughnuts spring back when touched, 10-12 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
- For glaze, in a small bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, vanilla and enough heavy cream to reach desired consistency. Dip each doughnut halfway, allowing excess to drip off. Place on wire rack; let stand until set.
