  • Pizza crust: Two tubes of refrigerated pizza crust is easiest, but if you’d like to make your own you have options.
  • Ground beef: Use any type of beef that you like—lean or regular is fine.
  • Sloppy joe sauce: Again, pre-made canned sloppy joe sauce is easiest, but a homemade version is so darn tasty.
  • Cheese: You’ll be using shredded part-skim mozzarella, shredded cheddar, and grated Parmesan cheese.

Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add the sloppy joe sauce and mix well. Spread this mixture over the crusts. Sprinkle with cheeses. Bake for six to eight minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Sloppy Joe Pizza Variations

  • Add veggies: Mix in sliced onions, green peppers, olives or mushrooms for a little extra flavor and crunch.
  • Add fruit: If you’re not on team pineapple, skip this. If you are, add pineapple to the top for a sweet-and-savory pie that’ll hit the spot.
  • Add sliced tomatoes: Large, thinner slices of tomato placed right on top of the cheese is an exceptionally delicious variation to this sloppy joe pizza.

How to Store Sloppy Joe Pizza Variations

We doubt you’ll have any leftovers, but if you do, store pizza in the fridge in an airtight container. It’ll last in the fridge like this for three to four days.

How do you reheat sloppy joe pizza?

The best way to rewarm leftover pizza is by using a cast iron pan. Warm the pan, pop your slice of pizza in it and cover. Cook over medium heat until the pizza is heated through and the cheese is re-melting. The bottom will be perfectly crunchy this way but not burnt, and the top layer of the pizza will be piping hot, gooey and not one bit dried out. If you don’t have a cast iron pan, you can rewarm it using the oven or microwave until the pizza is warmed through.

Why is my crust getting soggy?

If your crust is becoming too soggy, try using just a bit less of the sloppy joe topping. If the sloppy joe mix is too saucy, it may contribute to a soggy bottom crust. Additionally, make sure to bake the crust long enough. Undercooked pizza crust can be soggy.

Can I use a frozen pizza crust base?

Those frozen pizza crusts in the frozen section of the supermarket are handy, and they work for this recipe as well. Grab your favorite crust and top the still-frozen base with sloppy joe mix and the cheeses, and pop it in the oven until it’s done.

Can I make this gluten-free?

Absolutely. Just follow this recipe to make a gluten-free pizza crust or grab your favorite premade gluten-free pizza dough. Additionally, either make your own sloppy Joe mix or purchase a pre-made one that you know is gluten-free. If you’re familiar with avoiding gluten, you know that gluten hides in funny places. While most sloppy joe mixes are gluten-free, some aren’t.
