It was located at 7112 Firestone Boulevard in Downey, California. Measuring at 400 square feet with only a walk-up window, the small stucco building displayed colorful letters on the front and a large sign of a sombrero and a bell.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tacobell.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Taco Bell<\/a> offered our sister site\u00a0<em>Reader\u2019s Digest<\/em> a few photos of what the very first store looked like. His goal with Taco Bell was to stand out from his competitors, such as McDonald\u2019s.\u00a0Glen Bell introduced Mexican-inspired food to the masses. The concept was so new to his customers that they even referred to tacos as \"tay-kohs.\"\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n<div class=\"listicle-card-image-wrapper\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteofhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Original-Menu-w-Kermit-Becky.jpg?fit=700,1024\" alt=\"Original Taco Bell menu\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1066277\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<h2><strong>The original menu<\/strong><\/h2>\nKermit Becky (pictured above), a retired Los Angeles policeman, became the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/Taco-Bell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">first franchisee<\/a> of Taco Bell when he opened his first restaurant in Torrance, California, in 1964. With over 7,000 locations across the United States and another over 500 locations in nearly 30 countries around the world, they continue to provide customers with bold flavors, quality ingredients, and breakthrough value.\u00a0They launched a breakfast menu\u00a0in 2014, allowed for mobile ordering,\u00a0and\u00a0launched delivery\u00a0nationwide earlier this year.\u00a0From releasing a clothing line with Forever 21 to hosting\u00a0weddings at their\u00a0Las Vegas Cantina and even launching a pop-up hotel later this summer, Taco Bell continues to push boundaries on how fans can experience the brand.
