That's a tall order—but Caraway ceramic cookware claims to hit all of the above essentials.

After reading Caraway cookware reviews, I retired my aluminum set, upgraded to ceramic cookware and gave these gorgeous pans from Caraway a try.

[SINGLE_AFFILIATE_PRODUCT superlative="We Tried It" product_name="Caraway Ceramic Cookware" short_description="Each set of non-toxic ceramic-coated cookware has everything you'll need for healthy cooking in your kitchen." image="1998243" image_credit="EMIKO FRANZEN FOR TASTE OF HOME" pr_name="Caraway" pr_url="https://go.skimresources.com?id=131817X1598243&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carawayhome.com%2Fcollections" pr_display_text="Shop on Caraway" retailers_2_name="Amazon" retailers_2_url="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XM1B6ZX" retailers_2_display_text="Shop on Amazon" retailers_3_name="Macy's" retailers_3_url="https://go.skimresources.com?id=131817X1598243&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.macys.com%2Fshop%2Fproduct%2Fcaraway-non-stick-ceramic-12-piece-cookware-set%3FID%3D11824010" retailers_3_display_text="Shop on Macy's" retailers_4_name="The Container Store" retailers_4_url="https://go.skimresources.com?id=131817X1598243&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.containerstore.com%2Fs%2Fkitchen%2Fprep-gadgets-accessories%2Fcaraway-home-non-toxic-non-stick-ceramic-12-piece-cookware-set%2F12d%3FproductId%3D11019181" retailers_4_display_text="Shop on The Container Store" /]

What is Caraway Ceramic Cookware?

Ceramic cookware is metal cookware finished in a ceramic coating. This coating makes these pans stand out from their stainless steel, aluminum and nonstick cousins. The ceramic finish on Caraway pans is free of PTFE and PFO (commonly called Teflon) as well as heavy metals. The mineral coating on ceramic pans is naturally slick so your food won't stick.

This coating also distributes heat evenly across the cooking surface for correctly cooked food, whether it's in the center of the pan or at the edges.

Caraway Cookware Features

Part of what made Caraway so appealing to me was that the company offered a streamlined cookware set: a Dutch oven, a sauté pan, a saucepan and a frying pan with corresponding lids. Although I'm a serious cook—I cook nearly every day—I don't have a large kitchen. The thought of paring down my cookware to these staples was pretty attractive.

Caraway cookware is also highlighted for its environmentally friendly practices, including sustainable packaging and lower carbon emissions during production. The company uses recyclable cardboard and biodegradable cork trivets, avoiding single-use plastics. Additionally, Caraway partners with factories that meet ethical labor standards, although some users prefer North American manufacturing over overseas production in China and India. So, for eco-conscious shoppers, Caraway gets major brownie points.

To keep the cookware organized, each Caraway ceramic cookware set purchase includes a pot rack and storage for your lids. Everything rests on a single shelf that takes up less than 17 inches of space. This small blueprint provides more breathing room in the cupboards.

Also, Caraway's cookware line is oven-safe up to 550 degrees, meaning the pans easily go from the cooktop (you can use them on electric, gas or induction burners) right into the oven. That high heat rating definitely gave me some peace of mind because most other nonstick cookware is only safe to about 400 degrees or so.

And how could I forget the major allure of this brand in particular? The colors! Yes, performance comes first, but if I find a terrific product and it's gorgeous, I'm sold. Caraway offers cookware in sage green, navy, cream, pale gray, marigold and a pink tone called Perracotta. You can also buy a luxe set in black or white.

Bonus: They've now launched Caraway mini cookware—ideal for one-pan meals and small kitchens.

How We Tested These Pots & Pans

"Caraway

I got my first two pieces from Caraway in July 2020. Opening up my new cookware, I put it straight to work making dinner for the evening. Using a bounty of fresh veggies from the garden, I prepared a quick curry with a side of coconut rice.

Even with the best nonstick pans, rice—particularly sticky coconut rice—has a tendency to cling. I can't tell you how many times I've rewashed my old saucepan after finding rice residue on the bottom (it's an embarrassing amount). But after letting this ceramic pan cool, I washed it with warm sudsy water and let it dry.

Much to my surprise and delight, it was spotless. As for the curry packed with turmeric, a spice that has the tendency to stain containers and dishtowels, the leftovers slid right out of the pan—no yellow stains to be found.

"Caraway

Later in the week, I whipped up some pork and ginger lettuce cups. The large sauté pan heated quickly (way faster than my cast-iron skillet) and evenly to brown the pork. The pan easily accommodates a double batch of this fresh and easy dinner—maybe even a triple batch if I had a lot of mouths to feed.

I'll admit that after munching on these all evening, I was worried about washing away the hoisin sauce that so often lingers in pans. As with the other dishes I made, cleaning these ceramic pans was a breeze.

I've had the complete Caraway cookware set since December 2020, and cooking with them has been a real joy. They perform well, clean up easily and look beautiful on the table. The one thing I have learned, however, is that consistently cooking on high heat will lower the pans' nonstick factor.

I learned this the hard way when my husband cranked up the stove with the small skillet one too many times, and it definitely lost some of its nonstick power. Minding the heat is especially important when boiling water for pasta. Patience is a virtue!

Though the ceramic coating is durable, it can scratch or chip over time, especially if metal utensils are used. Hand washing with non-abrasive sponges is recommended to maintain the coating’s longevity. Additionally, while the cookware is dishwasher-safe, regular use in a dishwasher might cause the finish to dull more quickly.

This also leads to slight durability and heat distribution issues down the line. While Caraway cookware is praised for its non-toxic, non-stick surface and attractive design, some users mention that the cookware can develop hot spots and uneven heating over time. This issue stems from the thin aluminum core, which doesn’t distribute heat as effectively as heavier materials like stainless steel or cast iron. This can make it challenging to achieve even browning or searing on some foods.

Still, I love my Caraway cookware. Having pots and pans that double as serveware is a big plus for me—fewer dishes to wash!

Three Years Later

"I’ve been using Caraway cookware since 2021. I started with the Dutch oven and sauté pan, and though both pieces have since retired from my kitchen, I am still using a frying pan from February 2024," says Senior Editor Katie Bandurski. "The sauté pan quickly became my go-to for cooking rice dishes, browning veggies, boiling one-pot pasta and frying eggs. For several months, this pan was my right-hand man in the kitchen."

That said, the pan only lasts as long as it is kept up with. Katie notes that while she loved the nonstick pans at first, over time, she started deviating from the pan’s specific care instructions—turning up the heat and using metal tongs were her primary ceramic sins. She noted that this abuse caused permanent brown spots that even rigorous scrubbing couldn’t lift away. After three years, she retired the pan entirely.

"In the name of science, I ordered a new Caraway frying pan. This time, I’ve been very careful to follow the instructions to a tee—and so far, so good. Fresh out of the box, this pan offers one of the slickest coatings I’ve experienced. It’s perfect for scrambling eggs or cooking delicate proteins," she says.

Product Testing Team Evaluation

"Toha25

Our Product Testing Team has ample experience testing everything from the best toasters to the best food processors, so we enlisted their help to find the best cookware of every type. We re-tested Caraway ceramic cookware to see how it compares to competitors' ceramic cookware, using a sliding egg test (with and without oil), a searing test with chicken tenderloin and a crepe test to determine how evenly it cooks. In the Product Testing Team's evaluation, Caraway performed very well. Although it cooked the crepe a bit more in the middle compared to the sides, nothing stuck to the bottom of the pan during any of our tests. Even the egg sans oil slid around like a dream!
