If you're as obsessed with TikTok as I am, there's no doubt that the ever-popular salmon and rice dish has popped up on your FYP. This video has over 4 million likes, so no matter what side of TikTok you're on, you're bound to come across it. And these TikTok recipe looks delicious. You know we had to check it out!

This TikTok salmon bowl comes courtesy of creator @emilymariko. To make her popular dish, you'll need two main ingredients, salmon and rice, and they don't even have to be made to order. Emily uses leftovers—and I'll never turn down a good leftovers repurposing—but fresh ingredients will also do the trick.

In her video, she shreds the cooked salmon with a fork, then tops that with a big scoop of cooked white rice. Emily's method for heating up the rice is genius! She places an ice cube in the middle of the rice, covers it with a sheet of parchment paper, presses her hand over the parchment to seal it down and then microwaves it.

After she pulls the salmon and rice from the microwave she adds soy sauce, sriracha and Japanese mayo. Emily finishes this TikTok salmon bowl with slices of avocado, a little bowl of kimchi and some seaweed snacks. Lets give it a go!

Use a fork to flake the cooked salmon until it's fluffy and there are no more big chunks.

Add the rice over the flaked salmon, then place an ice cube in the middle of the rice. Cover with parchment paper so the steam won't escape during heating. Microwave on high for about 2 minutes.

Remove from the microwave and discard the parchment.

Add the soy sauce to the salmon and rice and mix until it's all fully incorporated. Drizzle zigzags of sriracha and mayo on top. Finish with the slices of avocado, kimchi and a sprinkle of sesame seeds if you'd like. If you're looking for more recipes, then try this delicious miso salmon.

Leftover rice tends to build a crunchy outer shell after a day or two, but reheating rice with water actually helps recreate the signature fluff. This is due to the power of steam, a hot and extremely effective way of cooking.

The ice cube mimics the same process, and the parchment paper helps to keep the steam circling continuously. The power of science truly is amazing. Almost as amazing as the TikTok salmon bowl!

You definitely do not need to use leftover salmon and rice for this dish, though it does make the recipe exceptionally fast and easy! But this dish is delicious enough to warrant making both the salmon and rice specifically for it.

Absolutely! You can top this dish according to your tastes—add some sesame ginger cucumbers or chopped scallions. And I love to use black sesame seeds in addition to white, for the color contrast.

You can create the same effect with a bowl placed on top of the rice to capture the steam. Just make sure there are no big holes so it locks in the moisture.

This story was first reported by Taste Recipes contributor Melany Love.

How to Make the TikTok Salmon Bowl
