The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded its recall of eggs from Milo\u2019s Poultry Farms<\/a>. The original egg recall<\/a> was announced on Sept. 6 after the FDA connected Milo\u2019s to a salmonella outbreak investigation<\/a>\u00a0that has caused 65 illnesses across nine states.\r\n\r\nHere\u2019s what you need to know about the changes to the egg recall\u2014and how to stay safe when cooking.\r\n

What caused the egg recall?<\/h2>\r\nMilo\u2019s Poultry Farms is connected to a salmonella<\/a> outbreak in nine states: California, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. This outbreak led to a Class 1 recall, or a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, contaminated eggs will cause serious health consequences or death.\r\n\r\nOf the 65 people who have been infected with the salmonella strain linked to Milo\u2019s eggs, 24 have been hospitalized so far. However, the true number of sick people is likely much higher than the number reported, according to the CDC.\r\n
