Shearer's Foods, which supplies oyster crackers that are sold as store brands, recently issued a recall in 24 states<\/a> because of a possible contamination risk. The oyster crackers could contain pieces of stainless steel wire.\r\n

What caused the recall?<\/h2>\r\nThe recall affects 15,874 total cases of the product. The oyster crackers were recalled over the possibility of contamination by a foreign object. Specifically, they could contain small pieces of metal in the form of stainless steel wire, which should never be ingested.\r\n\r\nThe recall was initiated as a Class III on February 21, which means \u201cuse of or exposure to is not likely to cause adverse health consequences,\u201d per the FDA. But on March 11, the FDA updated this recall to a Class II, meaning \u201cuse of or exposure to may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.\u201d\r\n

What states are affected by the recall?<\/h2>\r\nThe recalled oyster crackers were distributed for sale in 24 states: Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.\r\n
