All 1,500 Five Guys locations only serve burgers to this level of doneness, according to a Five Guys representative.\u00a0The fast-casual restaurant hasn\u2019t revealed the reasoning behind the policy, but there are a few theories as to why you can\u2019t order a medium-rare, rare or medium patty.\r\n\r\nThe most obvious explanation is the chain\u2019s commitment to food safety. The health risks of eating raw meat include consuming bacteria such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicaldaily.com\/health-risks-eating-raw-meat-what-kind-bacteria-does-rare-chicken-beef-pork-411293\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">E. coli and salmonella<\/a>. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Food\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/UCM462491.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">U.S. Food and Drug Administration<\/a>\u00a0(FDA) says beef should be cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure the meat is safe to eat.\u00a0In 2016, sensors that track temperature were installed in all of the Five Guys North American restaurants to ensure that all ingredients are at a safe temperature, per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rfidjournal.com\/articles\/view?14329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">RFiD Journal<\/a>. Much like you won\u2019t find an under-cooked burger at Five Guys, you also won\u2019t see a freezer, as the brand only uses coolers because their ingredients must be fresh, according to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fiveguys.com\/Fans\/The-Five-Guys-Story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the official website<\/a>.\r\n\r\nAnother theory is simply that cooking all the burgers the same way saves time and keeps everything uniform across all locations.
