I give this recipe 4 stars only because I don't know what it would be like if they turned out correct. I must say that I got a very nice cookie out of this. I did not however get the cookies that the recipe promised. I ran down the list of things I did wrong and think that I have found the culprit. You cannot use ANY cake mix. I purchased the Super Moist style cake mix and the cookie dough turned out to be too wet. They spread out into oval blobs with no evidence that they were rolled in powdered sugar. They were good (I made them with a lemon cake mix and a strawberry cake mix) just not what they were meant to be. I followed the directions and used a tablespoon scoop which resulted in a large cookie. These cookies spread. Next time, I will use a smaller scoop. Another tip is to cover your work area with something to catch the powdered sugar. It can get messy. Because these cookies were on the large side, I had to increase the baking to 15 minutes. A smaller cookie should be according to the recipe at 10-12 minutes. I have never given a negative review of a recipe from this site before, but this recipe was extremely difficult to make - for me. The batter was so sticky that it became almost impossible to drop by tablespoons. I tried wetting the spoon - and then my fingers - with cold water and that helped somewhat, but I never did get the finished product that was at all presentable. I ended up throwing out a large portion of the uncooked cookies and the finished products turned out to be large squares that simply didn't resemble a snowflake or anything else. Every disappointing.
