I had my first taste of huckleberry pie on a visit to Montana, and was hooked! With no huckleberries available here in Texas, I used organic blueberries, but added 1\/4 cup of huckleberry jam and reduced the sugar by half when I cooked the berries. I also added a squeeze of fresh lemon, as huckleberries are more tart than blueberries. Turned out delicious! I used pecans in my crust, and agree with others\u2019 comments about reducing oven temp and cook time on the crumb crust. I used a 9\u201d glass pie pan and it was a bit shallow for all of the cream cheese mixture, so I reserved about 3\/4 cup and my husband enjoyed it as a topping. I use walnut premade crust found in the grocery store which makes it so easy..... and frozen huckleberries work great (I live in Montana so they are plentiful and delish!). Keeps well in refrigerator and can be made a day in advance.
