I've been making biscuits with my grandmother my whole life and I have never seen a dough as difficult and annoying as this. First of all, if you're doing it correctly you shouldn't need to grease the sheet, you don't have enough flour in your recipe, you shouldn't and don't have to kneed these biscuits, the recipe makes two extremely small biscuits, when you cut in the shortening it just makes a greasy mush that gets worse with the milk. Your recipe doesn't account anywhere for changes in temperature due to climate or humidity. The proper way to make these would be to just get a metal bowl, poor in a half cup of flour, 1 tablespoon of shortening and two table spoons milk, preferably lard and buttermilk because the consistency is thicker, which is probably why replacing milk with yogurt worked so well for someone else. I doubled the recipe and it made the perfect amount. I didn't get much lift though. I think I would add a little more baking powder next time to see if that would make them fluffier.

i have made these 4 times now in the past 2 days. they've all tasted good, but only my 4th batch actually rose. i also added a tbsp of honey to the recipe. i had to pat these out to almost an inch thickness to get them to look more like biscuits and not so much like cookies. but either way, i love the flavor :) now that i've got the recipe figured out (for my preference, at least) i'll definitely make these over and over!

This was so easy to make! I like how the outside is lightly crisp and the inside soft. I really liked this recipe. I modified it a little by adding a bit more baking powder and some sugar. The added sugar made them perfect for breakfast.

Delicious!! Not sure if it is a misprint but you can't get four 2-1/2-in. biscuits out of this recipe. I used a 2-in. cutter to get four biscuits.

Learning how to make bread and pastries from scratch is so satisfying for any home baker.
