It's been a while since I baked cookies, so I was being very careful about adding each ingredient in this recipe. The 1st time I made them was with stone ground oats and they were good, but I wasn't crazy about the texture. I even tried the refrigerator cookie idea one of the reviewers suggested with half of the mixture. Good both ways, but I was sure I could do better. I baked them this past weekend with Quick Oats and they were delicious! I found the mixture to be crumbly like everyone has reviewed, but when I buttered my hands and rolled them into balls for the cookie sheet, it worked much better with less crumbling. And I also held the sides of each cookie dough ball with my fingers before I pressed the fork into them. That worked the best. Wonderful flavor to these cookies!

@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Review
2020-12-14
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Person
GreenCloud
My Mom used to make these at Christmas time each year. Soft and chewy. I did find sea salt caramel baking truffles which I thought would add an extra special taste. The cookies would be wonderful without however chocolate and caramel, wow! Keeping this recipe.
NOTE: Even though the recipe says to use an ungreased cookie sheet, USE PARCHMENT PAPER! This cookie bakes super thin and extremely hard to remove from the cookie sheet after baking, if you do not use parchment paper. For the first 2 batches my efforts to get them off the cookie sheet (without the paper) after they cooled only left me with a pile of pieces. Too ugly to serve to friends, BUT the taste is awesome. My cookies took 12-13 min to bake before they got light brown and I used a heaping Tablespoon for each cookie. From the pieces I tasted, the outside is crispy and the inside is chewy. USE PARCHMENT PAPER!
First time I made these I cut the recipe in half. 5 1/2 dozen are quite a few, if you aren't sure you are going to like the. Well I made them a second time, full recipe.....these are so good. I grind up walnuts so they are very small and add them to to cookie....they are a little difficult to keep them blended in, but I like the crunch. Don't know if my oven runs extremely hot, but I put the first batch at 9 minutes and then cut back to eight for the rest. I guess I don't like my cookies too crispy. lol
Wonderfully crisp and flavorful. I needed to bake something for church potluck, and these were perfect! The subtle addition of cinnamon is a nice touch. I didn't have any nutmeg, which for me, is OK (I don't care for nutmeg). The crunchy outside and chewy inside is exactly the kind of texture I have been looking for in an oatmeal cookie. Perfect pairing with a glass of cold milk!
I'd better pack them away before they disappear!

Aside from a couple of tweaks, this recipe is the same as the official Quaker Oats “Famous Oatmeal Cookies” recipe. It is featured on the outside of the decorated anniversary Limited Edition tin, dated 1983.

The oatmeal cookie recipe was the first new baking recipe I learned to make after I married it was a teenage bride. I have seen slightly varied versions of this cookie so many times over the last 40 years. Everyone of them were ?? Delicious!

What I like in this version is the addition of the nutmeg. Subtle aroma and flavor would be wonderful with a cup of something hot in the morning.

These are five star awesome as with all the other versions I have tried over the years. Now my grandchildren are making them, to the delight of my son, their father!
