Made this yesterday following directions other than mine was a regular choc cake mix, not devil's food. It was the type with pudding in the mix, so possibly that is the problem. Noted right away it didn't seem to rise enough, only a few inches tall. No more than half the height of the cake shown in picture. Very dense and heavy. Didn't finish my piece. Had just bought the cake mix, so freshness should not be an issue, used the right size pan. Recipe disclaimer - this was submitted way back in the 90's when counting fat seemed to be the in thing. It was a discovery of a way to not add more fat to a pre-packaged item (cake-mix). I realize you had no way of knowing that, since the submission date is not available in the little blurb.<\/p>
Carb counting was not even in the equation, so please feel free to try adding protein powder, walnuts, and other things to give this a protein boost.<\/p>
