Hey - You can't call it German Chocolate cake and use a devil's food cake mix. I have made this many, many times and always use a German Chocolate mix. Also I suggest that you make the cake mix, put that in the pan, then the cream cheese mixture swirled in and top it evenly with the coconut, chocolate chips, and the nuts. It looks better, too. And as others have noted - this is called Earthquake Cake and is not a dump cake so that is a misnomer. But it truly is an amazingly delicious cake - Oh, so do good. Yummy Earthquake cake! I didn\u2019t have pecans so I used slivered almonds as that\u2019s all I had. I didn\u2019t use as much powdered sugar as called for (I used 1 1\/3 cups) I had to whip up some sugar in my blender, to turn it into powdered sugar, because I didn\u2019t have any in my cabinet. I was short one egg, but I used 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise in place of the last egg. When I make chocolate anything, I usually use some cold coffee in place of water to amp up the chocolate flavor. I used cold coffee in my cake mix, instead of plain water.<\/p>
