The first time I made this recipe was about 5-6 years ago when my cousin and her husband came back to PA for a visit and I wanted to give them an authentic German\/Amish dinner to celebrate. It's what we grew up on. I served this sauerbraten and it was a huge hit. Also made Amish pot pie (dough cooked in chicken broth with thick sliced potatoes). Even had \"horsey cakes\" for dessert (sugar cookies cut out of dough with cookie cutters and decorated with colored sugars). I know - sounds horribly heavy but I only had one evening to spoil my cousin and her husband so I came up with as many German\/Amish dishes as I could. The important thing is we enjoyed every morsel and made lots of wonderful memories that evening. Since then I've made the sauerbraten several times (usually at my husband's request) and we always enjoy it.<\/p>","reviewRating":{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org\/","@type":"Rating","ratingValue":5,"worstRating":1,"bestRating":5}},{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org\/","@type":"Review","datePublished":"2022-03-31","author":{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org\/","@type":"Person","name":"Kim698"},"reviewBody":"I love this version! I gave it a 4 as you can never make one as good as your great grandma's. But this is very close. It is very tender, I used chuck I just like it better over round.
