While i did like this, i felt that i should have doubled the amount of chicken. There was alot of liquid left and i was using kaiser rolls, so i only got 4 sandwiches out of this.

As for the flavor, i still added bbq sauce to the sandwich. The chicken turned out really moist. i would make this again, but would just make more chicken for the liquid ratio.

@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Review
2019-09-19
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Person
OliveBulb
I used a family pack of the chicken breasts and doubled everything else except the salt and pepper. Especially if I'm going to review it(note: this is my first review). Didn't have any chicken base but I did have chicken stock which I used in place of the base and water. I couldn't help but think this recipe is missing a key ingredient. So after putting the chicken in a dish, shredding it and adding the reserved liquid then mixing it up, I took a taste, not bad at all, I thought. Then reached into my flavor enhancing cabinet for the bottle of liquid smoke. If you're not used to using liquid smoke a little goes a long way. It improves this recipe tremendously.
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Review
2015-05-04
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Person
RedBulb
This is a NC recipe. As a Kansas girl, I am not used to a vinegar-based BBQ chicken, but this is absolutely delicious. It's tangy, slightly sweet, and just a little spicy (the heat can be dialed up or down easily). The best part about this recipe is that is a dump-it-and-go recipe. The slow cooker makes it super simple. Bonus (and I say this with all due respect to my KC-style BBQ-loving friends!): this chicken is much less messy than tomato-based BBQ chicken! We will be making this again soon!
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Review
2015-12-01
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Person
RedRaindrop
I made this recipes last night for supper. I'm from Eastern NC and we do love our vinegar bbq! I deviated using brown sugar and cider vinegar, and boneless skinless chicken thighs. It was a little sweet for my taste, but added a little more vinegar. I might cut back a little on the amount of brown sugar next time. Thanks also to ryan0705 for your hints ~ Also, it was too late to use my crock pot, so I slow cooked in the oven at 275 degrees F for 3 hours, and while I was pulling apart the chicken, I simmered down the liquid.
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Review
2018-07-06
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Person
PurpleTrumpet
I didn't use chicken base (didn't want it to taste too chicken-y) or water (chicken has enough water already added during processing). The low sodium chicken base I found had 130 mg per 3/4 tsp = 520 mg sodium per TBlspn. The 3/4 tsp. salt recipe specifies has 1,725 mg. Uninjected raw chicken breast may have only 80 mg. per serving, but much of the raw chicken available at the grocery store is injected with up to 15% sodium phosphate. In the best case, I calculate this recipe as having 480 mg. per serving (6 servings). If chicken is injected, much more. If you have serious health concerns, as we do in our family, where even a single high sodium meal has serious health consequences, it pays to double-check the sodium calculations.
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Review
2015-03-31
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Person
GoldCocktail
A different spin on BBQ that I had never experienced, I only cooked the chicken about 3 hr 15 min since my crockpot cooks faster than most recipes call for, very tasty but a little drier without the BBQ sauce.
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Rating
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Review
2015-04-30
@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Person
OrangeLeaf
Chicken had good flavor but the chicken turned out mushy.
If you have serious medical needs related to sodium restriction, please review the sodium calculation (228 mg.) given for this recipe critically.

The low sodium chicken base I found had 130 mg per 3/4 tsp = 520 mg sodium per TBlspn. Uninjected raw chicken breast may have only 80 mg. per serving, but much of the raw chicken available at the grocery store is injected with up to 15% sodium phosphate.

In the best case, I calculate this recipe as having 480 mg. per serving (6 servings). A winner of a chicken dinner!

This is great; that's all there is to it. Being Canadian, I was a little leery of cooking meat in vinegar- I had never heard of it! But I trusted the reviews and went ahead. Next time I will ad more spice, not less like some other reviewers. The cole slaw on top is a must - really a great combination of flavours!

This is a NC recipe. But my mother used brown sugar, cider

vinegar and smoke flavoring all to taste. You cook the chicken

just until done and remove it then cook the juice etc. down

until it's kinda like a sauce then add meat back in.. It's really

good but the same recipe used for pulled pork is alot better.

With pork leave the meat in while cooking juice down. Try it

warmed bun with optional hot sauce. SUPER GOOD!

Chicken had good flavor but the chicken turned out mushy. I think I did 2 things that contributed to the chicken beig over cooked. (1) I set the crockpot on a timer for cooking later in the day while I was at work. The chicken probably started cooking while sitting in the vinegar mixture. (2) I cooked the full 5 hrs.
