Ingredients

  • 3 pounds medium potatoes, peeled and halved
  • 3 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups chicken or beef gravy, optional

Directions

  1. Place potatoes in a stock pot; add water to cover. Season water with 1 teaspoon salt; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cook, uncovered, until soft, 15-20 minutes. Drain; press through a potato ricer or strainer into a large bowl.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat milk, cream and butter until just warm and butter is melted. Add milk mixture to the bowl with potatoes; gently stir until combined. Season with remaining 2 teaspoons salt and pepper. If desired, serve with gravy and additional pepper.
